where you can find the rules and details. The theme is “The Industry of the Tees Valley and its Heritage”. The photograph doesn't have to be new, but must not have appeared in any publication or other competition before. Closing date 20/9/13.
Presidential Address & AGM
Our first technical event of the season will be the AGM and Presidential Lecture on Tuesday 1st October, at 6pm, with coffee/tea from 5:30pm as usual. Please find a poster attached. If you can print this and display it, or forward it on, that would be much appreciated.
On Thursday 10th October at 7:30pm the CIE Annual Quiz will be held at Toft House, the Little Theatre Club adjacent to the theatre. (directions nearer the time) Please e-mail Johan on soc...@cieng.org to book your place. Cost is £3/head, with pie and peas as usual, so get your teams together!
The Prestigious Lecture is on the 5th November, "From Industrial Engineering to Ecological Engineering" by Prof Peter Head CBE, FREng, FRSA, the Executive Chairman of The Ecological Sequestration Trust.
The CIE Annual Dinner is on Friday 29th November at the Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough. Guest of Honour is Nigel Perry FREng, CEO of the Centre for Process Innovation at Wilton. Also speaking is Nigel Cuffe, former editor of the Evening Gazette. If you would like details of booking a table, or would like a ticket for yourself and guests, please contact Johan on soc...@cieng.org for further details.
On December 3rd we have Jonathan Aylen, Director External Relations, Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, University of Manchester who's lecture is entitled "Stretch : how innovation continues once investment is made".

Symposium for engineers & guests:
climate, tipping points & risk

This symposium will provide an early opportunity to discuss:
Robert is a Chartered Environmentalist and has carried out several small surveys of opinions on global warming. He is lead editor for the ICE Proceedings Forensic Journal on a forthcoming special themed issue on ‘defining hazards from climate change for resilient design’.
The symposium will concentrate on assessments of the risks, but will be open to all and will welcome scientists, engineers, students, and interested members of society.
