Dear Members and Friends,

The CIE Annual Dinner is on Friday 29th November at the Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough.  Guest of Honour is Nigel Perry FREng, CEO of the Centre for Process Innovation at Wilton.  Also speaking is Nigel Cuffe, former editor of the Evening Gazette.  If you would like details of booking a table, or would like a ticket for yourself and guests, please contact Johan on soc...@cieng.org  for further details.

On December 3rd we have Jonathan Aylen, Director External Relations, Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, University of Manchester who's lecture is entitled "Stretch : how innovation continues once investment is made".  Poster is attached, and if you can print and display this, that would be much appreciated.  Usual venue at the Centuria Building, park in the Sage car park, P10 on the car parks map, link below

The IoM3 Young Persons Lecture Competition is open to students and graduates age 28 or under on 1 June 2014 in industry or academia.  Please look at --> http://www.iom3.org/yplc  for further information.  Scroll to the bottom to download the rules and entry forms for 2014.  The CIE heat will be on Tuesday 4th February, deadline for entries is Monday 20th January.  Please encourage any young graduates or students to enter.

Not to be confused with the YPLC above, the CIE Award is open for entries, deadline for a 500 word deadline is May 1st.  Poster attached, and rules available from me on request.  There is no age limit for this competition, so please encourage anyone whom you think might be interested.

Visit to William Lane Foundry on May 14th and 21st (both Wednesdays).  Please let me know if you would be interested in a visit to this foundry, which started in 1862, and is 2 years older than the CIE!  Numbers are restricted to 12 per visit, so I'm trying to assess how many visits we would need.  I've gone for 2 initially.  Look at --> http://www.williamlane.co.uk/
