Dear Members and Friends,

The CIE Calendar is now available, look at IMG_1822.jpg attached.  This features the winning photos from the photo competition earlier this year.  If you would like one, please send an A5 sized SAE to me at 73 The Slayde, Yarm TS15  9HZ.  Please note I will be away from 10/12/13 - 18/12/13, so if you envelope arrives during this period, I'm afraid it will have to wait until I get back.

Our next lecture is on Tuesday 7th January, by Mike Looney at Caterpillar Peterlee, and is entitled "Made in Peterlee!".  He will talk about the latest computer design and robotic assembly facilities at the plant and how they are used to create Cat's world famous products.  Start time 6pm with usual coffee and chat from 5:30pm.  Usual venue (unless there's another strike!) at the Centuria Building, park in the Sage car park, P10 on the car parks map, link below

The IoM3 Young Persons Lecture Competition is open to students and graduates age 28 or under on 1 June 2014 in industry or academia.  Please look at --> http://www.iom3.org/yplc  for further information.  Scroll to the bottom of the webpage to download the rules and entry forms for 2014.  The CIE heat will be on Tuesday 4th February, deadline for entries is Monday 20th January.  Please encourage any young graduates or students to enter.

Not to be confused with the YPLC above, the CIE Award is open for entries, deadline for a 500 word deadline is May 1st.  Poster attached, and rules available from me on request.  There is no age limit for this competition, so please encourage anyone whom you think might be interested.

Visit to William Lane Foundry on May 14th and 21st (both Wednesdays).  Please let me know if you would be interested in a visit to this foundry, which started in 1862, and is 2 years older than the CIE!  Numbers are restricted to 12 per visit, so I'm trying to assess how many visits we would need.  I've gone for 2 initially.  Look at --> http://www.williamlane.co.uk/
