Numbers are limited, so again, first come first served.
Our Heritage Conversazione to celebrate out 150th Anniversary, will take place on Tuesday 23rd September, at the Wilton Centre. I attach a poster for this, if you can print and display this, that would be much appreciated. If you wish to register, please contact me.
The 2014-15 season starts on Tuesday 7th October with the AGM and Presidential Address. Our incoming President, Vince Ludlow will speak on "From Hedgerow to Carrot Fibre: Socio economic history of angling in the UK viewed through the development of today's fishing rods". The theme for the season is "New Materials".
Middlesbrough College are taking part in the National Women's Engineering Day on Monday 23rd June, and I have had the following information from Kimberley York, a CIE Council Member. Any help would be appreciated. Please contact Kimberley directly if you can offer any support for this event.
We have started making decisions for our Women into Engineering day 23rd June. I appreciate that some of you have responded and some of you have not had chance to yet. Here is what we have decided.
· Introduction – 9:30-9:50
Brief explanation of engineering in the current economy – Sharon Lane confirmed
Quiz using electronic voting sets – 4 people on stage. Students to guess what their job is from 4 available options. 4 volunteers from the sessions can be used for this
Students asked to type into voting sets what they think would stop them from doing engineering
Students then split into groups. Each activity to contain 16 students max, from 2 different schools. This will allow each school to participate in more than 2 different activities.
· Workshop session 1 – 10:00-10:45
· Workshop session 2 – 10:55-11:40
So far we have confirmed attendance by the following people
1. Kayleigh McHugh/Rachel Laden – introduction to CAD/inventor/Design engineering.
2. Martin Gibbins RAF (supported by a female RAF staff) – MTa equipment aerospace.
3. ECITB female staff member – Wind farm/renewables.
4. ECITB female staff member – Chocolate welding.
We appreciate that some of you have verbally offered assistance, however we are at the point that we need confirmation of sessions. We need 6 in total.
· End of session talk – 12:00-12:30
Speakers needed e.g. apprentice, university student, graduate, career professional.
Students to type into voting system what they have learnt, if they are now considering an engineering career, if they want to know more, and have their barriers changed – Some help with getting speakers for this would be greatly appreciated.
Middlesbrough College will provide bags containing industry information relating to companies involved and in local area. Any promotional material or “freebies” would be appreciated. We are also still lacking in any kind of freebies or information packs to give to the students.
Please can people respond as soon as possible to confirm their attendance and input as we need to invite the schools before the end of this week. Please confirm if you wish to simply attend and help on the day
Thank you very much for your continued involvement and support
