The Prestigious Lecture is on the 5th November, "From Industrial Engineering to Ecological Engineering" by Prof Peter Head CBE, FREng, FRSA, the Executive Chairman of The  Ecological Sequestration Trust.  Please find a poster attached.  If you can print this and display it, or forward it on, that would be much appreciated.  This is at our usual venue in the Centuria Building.  We need to know numbers for this event, so can you please register at

http://www.clevelandscientific.org.uk/sci/component/jcalpro/33-csi/1-csi-cie-prestigious-lecture?Itemid=101    if you want to come.  (Please let me know if you have any problems with registration.)

The CIE Annual Dinner is on Friday 29th November at the Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough.  Guest of Honour is Nigel Perry FREng, CEO of the Centre for Process Innovation at Wilton.  Also speaking is Nigel Cuffe, former editor of the Evening Gazette.  If you would like details of booking a table, or would like a ticket for yourself and guests, please contact Johan on soc...@cieng.org  for further details.

On December 3rd we have Jonathan Aylen, Director External Relations, Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, University of Manchester who's lecture is entitled "Stretch : how innovation continues once investment is made".

North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC)

The CIE has opened a dialogue with the NECC recently, and we are exploring synergies.  The NECC are celebrating their 200th anniversary in 2015, and are currently looking for anyone with any memories of events or courses at the NECC.  Eg one elderly lady remembered attending typing courses on a Saturday morning.  I can put anyone in touch with the relevant person at NECC should they wish to contribute any such memories.

Fred Traice

I am sorry to have to tell you that Fred Traice, who was President in 1997/8 passed away last Friday 11th October at the age of 73.  He was responsible for Research Programme Coordination at British Steel Grangetown Labs prior to his retirement.  There will be an obituary on the website in due course.
