You can download the paid, non-subscription, 64-bit VueScan which supports most of the SnanSnap models (including the s1300i) without any installed Fujitsu software or drivers. Complete Fujitsu independence.

What I did not mention is that I have already downloaded the Fujitsu update ScanSnap Home. It walks me through the set up. but once I connect my ScanSnap S1300i USB cable and open up the scanner, the blue light is not steady, but blinks. Furthermore when it tries to connect to my computer, it keeps telling me after processing for a while it tells me there is an error and it cannot connect. Frustrating.

Since getting DTPO. I needed a document scanner to handle the many documents that I have, I am using the Canon imageformula P-150 over the Fujitsu Scansnap S1300 as I had the S1300 for a day and a half and I got right into it, my personal view on the scansnap is, the hardware is a 5 star out of 5 ratting, the software is a 1 1/2 out of 5.

The Canon imageformula P-150 is what I switched too, also the P-150 is about the same price as a S1300 scansnap, right out box underneath the scanner I noticed, made in Japan, which is nice these days for everything else is made in China, the sturdiness and quality feel to the P-150 also said made in Japan to me.
All things said, drivers installed and setup done in system preferences, the scanner was ready to, and it did it worked well with the mac twain driver, exactscan in DTPO worked flawlessly, image scanner in the os worked well, the whole setup with good drivers made the testing easy and to end it all the P-150 is a keeper.

Im not a big fan of a all in one software with proprietary drivers made to run their hardware, Ive been burned by this before with other hardware, and not to mention I had another fujitsu scanner a few years ago for windows and mac, while they had twain drivers, the updating of the drivers took forever when there was a mac update or windows service pack, the old fujitsu sat idle many times waiting for drivers, and updating the computers were more important at the time then waiting for scanner drivers, the scanner was great when it was up, thats why I decided to try the s1300, as for the canon image formula, the twain driver works just fine on my mac, its fast and reliable with all my software, but I was worried about the osx 10.7.3 update, and its still working fine.

My workload is huge at the moment, many documents and pictures, and on top of all of this, Im suing a municipality for an environmental problem they have caused around my house, so my scanner is under heavy usage at the moment, and just maybe I should have gotten something bigger, but the canon is holding out well and the consumable parts still look fine.

I was wondering if you were aware of the issue with the ScanSnap scanners where the blue light keeps blinking when you open the top and the ScanSnap button on the task bar shows the scanner is not ready to scan?

Double click on Windows Image Acquisition, go to the tab that says Log On, and then click on Local System Account,
and Allow Service to Interact with Desktop. Click apply, and then Ok on the little pop up.
Then go back to the tab at the top that says General (next to Log On),
and stop the service, and then start it. If it gives you an error message, reboot the computer and then test

Dave (from 2018),
Thanks for your detailed instructions. Those worked, and I hope that puts this problem to bed. Problems started with Scansnap downloaded the new Scansnap Home to replace Scanscap Organizer. I used to have this problem with Organizer, but with Home, it happened EVERY time I tried to use the scanner.

Lately, I have the same problem as Terri Lane!
The blink of blue light; reset and download a new driver, it does not solve the problem.
Is the Windows 10 problem or the Scansnap S1300i software issue?
The scanner is useless now!

I am right there with you. Wireless scanning with Scansnap ix500 and Windows 10 should not be so difficult. Scansnap has failed to update drivers, making my life impossible. I am looking in to buying one of those Xerox Documates you mention.

Thank you for this solution!
I had tried the recovery tool several times with no success, reinstalled ScanSnap manager a few times before it would start flashing again a couple of days later. This appears to have worked for me! Thanks!

The only way I made it work was to remove the software and re-install from scratch. Never had a problem after re-install. The process is included in the discussion. One observation is that it always worked on a usb-2 port, if you have that option available to you

The first time this happened I took it to get it diagnosed and it just began working for him for no reason. I had just finished successfully scanning some receipts and closed the scanner and program, opened it to scan one more and got the dreaded blinking light again. What do you think is the cause?

Thank you!! I cannot stand how annoying the lose of connection is. The hardware works very well. I love the actual scanner, but I am constantly annoyed when trying to get the thing to scan to the computer!!

my scansnap ix500 the blue light in the scan button is on all the time whether the door close or open and the orange light is off. it seems the unit is dead, no reset is heard when the door is open. Any Idea?
please help

This worked for my client, thank you so much! Traditionally we always just re-installed the manager software and it would work on reboot, but with remote sites/slow WAN links this was always a pain, so hopefully this continues to be a solution!

Usually, I have to disconnect the computer connection and the power source on the ScanSnap and then re-boot my computer. After the computer is back up and running, I reconnect the cords on the back of the S300 and then it works for another few weeks!

DocumentSnap was created by Brooks Duncan (that's me). I started it in 2008 as I was going through my paperless journey. Now I share what works (and what doesn't) so you know exactly how to go paperless yourself.

This is a revised version of my earlier post that referred to Sane v.1.0.23 / Ubuntu 14.04. Sane v.1.0.23 detects Fujitsu S1300i scanner but then somehow gets stuck and finds no scanners on the second and subsequent runs of "scanimage -L", as described in previous posts.

The commands below will install Sane into /usr/local. If you choose to install into /usr instead of /usr/local, review the "Compile Sane From Source" and use the appropriate switches instead of the ones used below. I recommend installing into /usr/local, because this will leave your stock installation of Sane intact in case you want to switch back to using the stock version.

it means that the system first finds version 1.0.25 and then 1.0.26, which is not the correct order. In this case, you must change the order of the library paths in /etc/ld.so.conf or you must create a new configuration file for sane:

Once you have changed the library paths in /etc/ld.so.conf or created the new configuration file in 1-sane.conf, check the order of libraries one more time with "sudo ldconfig -v grep libsane". Make sure that version 1.0.26 appears first before any other versions.

The default udev rules set the ownership of the USB device to "root" and the group ownership to "root". Change the udev rules to set the group ownership to "scanner". Use your favourite editor to create this file:

Reboot your computer. You may be able to start using your Fujitsu S1300i scanner without rebooting your computer, however a reboot is strongly recommended. I observed some odd behaviour with "scanimage -L" failing to find the scanner on a second run before a reboot even after making all necessary configuration changes. It could be that some libraries or drivers from the earlier version of Sane get "stuck" somewhere in cache or else. A system reboot cleans it all up.

I've actually had good luck setting up the the ScanSnap S1300 scanner on a few Ubuntu installs. I just set it up on a 16.04 system this weekend. The instructions at -fujitsu-scansnap-s1300-s300-ubuntu-linux worked for me in the past but this post is no longer available.

As an alternative, the instructions at _1300i seem pretty applicable but I'll caution that it seems the difference between the S1300 and the S1300i is important. My specific process this weekend was to download both the 1300_0C26.nal and 1300i_0D12.nal files and then I picked up with step three in Beef Eater's response but installed both. After a restart, simple scan worked without issue. I did not build from source.

I am currently working with a customer and they have replaced their scanner with a Fujitsu ScanSnap s1300i. I did check the list of scanners that Laserfiche recommends/reviewed and it was not on the list. This scanner does not use TWAIN drivers and wasn't being picked up by WIA when selecting it. Has anyone come across this type of scanner before? Worst case would be that user would have to scan to their machine or a network location and have Import Agent pick up the documents from that location.

Here is a link as to why ScanSnap does not come with TWAIN drivers. Essentially it was made for the "average consumer" who would not really need to utilize the ability to communicate between software applications and imaging devices.
