How does installshield "know" where to transfer files if INSTALLDIR is incorrect

The INSTALLDIR property is incorrect; however, when transferring files
during an upgrade, all dlls are transferred to the correct directory
(i.e., which is different than INSTALLDIR). How can I access this
property? I need to update INSTALLDIR to it.
