I'm installing my VB5 application on a Win98SE machine and a NT4SP6 machine.
Both machines have Office97 installed, nothing more.
Major problems on the NT machine:
* the installation works perfect, the application works perfect but... when
I restart NT the system crashes. I can do a repair and the following files
are restored:
comctl32.dll, commdlg.dll, mfc40.dll, mfc42.dll, msvcirt.dll, oleaut32.dll
olepro32.dll, stdole2.tlb, msvcrt20.dll, odbcjt32.dll
Any clues?
On the Win98 machine I get one (tiny) problem:
* although I specify the file 'commdlg.dll' to overwrite only on a newer
version I get a message from Win saying that 'commdlg.dll' was overwritten
with an older version???
Help greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

PS: I hope w2k reduces dll troubles to a minimum!

Use the MS-Runtimes
(http://support.microsoft.com/download/support/mslfiles/vbrun60sp3.exe)
and add only the vb5-specifc files, which are not included.
I think if you need the odbcjt32.dll, there are dependencies you should
check!

Try installing the MS-Runtimes and nothing else - comes the same message?

I followed your advise, but had have no luck with it.
I found the 'troublemaker', comctl32.dll.
It only gives an error on NT, not on Win9x.
Thanks for your help.
