Problems with an InstallShield 5.1 setup.exe installing on an XP box

I get various problems intermittently seen with install.
E.g.
- run install package, setup.exe sticks in memory, never displays Setup
dialogs.
- install process crashing, after package has run and said it is
unpacking files, but before first Setup dialog.
- After install, reports that it could not delete a separate problem
running as part of the install. (Doesn't stop setup.exe running)

Problems only seen with XP clients. Not always repeatable.
It's fine on all other OS's.
When install does work, it seems to work completely and client is OK.
Any ideas??
