new string entry in resources not recognized

I'm using Installshield that was bundled with MSVC++ 6.0,=.

I've added a resource string as specified by the instructions.
It is added to the table. But when I refer to it in the script
I get "Entry not found in the string table"

Does my version only recognize strings that were
created by the wizard ?
