Hello!

Is it going to be a Mavericks update of the tool? Is Per Olofsson's AutoPKG considered a -replacement- of InstaDMG?

Sorry if this was covered or announced before...

Best

To be honest, I'm stuck about building in support for Mavericks, mostly because I haven't had time to pour through the spaghetti of code. Per Olofsson has been working on AutoDMG (which I haven't had a chance to look at yet) and I've even been working on a side project to "modernize" (read: replace) InstaDMG. With Allister currently being the primary steward of InstaDMG, I would be curious to hear what he has to say. Even on launch day, there are already updates available for the 13A603 build of 10.9.

To me, the most interesting thing about Mavericks being free is that there are now very few reasons to run 10.7 or 10.8. At least until old hardware is finally out of circulation, I foresee 10.6 and 10.9 being the only two versions that need to be actively maintained, and it's still yet to be seen if 10.6 will continue to receive any updates now that 10.9 is released.

Anyways, just my random thoughts before 8AM without any coffee.

Thank you,

Exactly because it is free, we are having massive requests for upgrades and restores. Per Olofsson's software looks great, but it is still under development.

Looking forward for Allister's thoughts too...

Best regards

Hey folks,
I'll comment further when I return from MacTech Conf. While I was able to make an early beta of 10.9 work once I had an installer in the traditional format, please assume that InstaDMG does not support all of the necessary steps to create a Mavericks image in the meantime.

I get a functional 10.9 DMG out of AutoDMG. But as it is still beta, it doesn't have the functionality to add other things into the DMG yet. :-/

Process?

The layout of the InstallESD _contents_ has changed in Mavericks.

By process meant just the order of mounting and install the manual method does as per http://www.afp548.com/2012/05/30/understanding-installesd-recovery-hd-internet-recovery/

So assuming its the same just a different file structure as you mentioned?

Different file layout; some resources have moved locations. Basically the same overall process, however.

Cool, am going to miss instadmg but autodmg looking promising.

Do prefer the CLI method though as I had a nice scheduled launch daemon setup with updates etc etc

AutoDMG has a shell script inside its bundle that can be used from the command-line.

Actually Per if you are listening... Is it your intention to expose a binary in your app so that it can be passed some arguments on the cli to provide some automation options?

Actually, Allister didn't mentioned (at least I didn't saw) that is abandoning the tool...
