Hi Everyone,

Can someone please point me in the right direction on how to create a BaseOS dmg file of Mavericks to add into the BaseOS folder.

I have a attempted to do this by Creating a Bootable USB drive of the installer and then created a DMG Image of the USB using Disk Utility.

I have updated the build ID (13A603) but when I run InstaDMG I get the error "Unable to find OS Installer disk in any provided folder"

I had this working with the Developer Preview but it doesn't work when I do the same with the final release from the App Store.

I have tested AutoDMG and it works great if you just want to create a base OS dmg but as soon as I add any custom packages I get an error. For this reason I want to stick with InstaDMG at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Peter

Hey Mr. Mills, filing bugs via GitHub issues for AutoDMG would be a way to give Per a hand in isolating why the packages aren't working. We also lurk in ##osx-server IRC if you wanted more real-time discussion. Thanks,

Allister

Apple has changed how you create a bootable OS installer with the release of Mavericks. You can no longer simply image a drive with the InstallESD.dmg. You have to follow the instructions in this Apple tech note:

Can the resulting DMG be used to compile in InstaDMG?  Or does one need to do something in order for the compilation to work?

I followed the article and I have a USB created -> I then created a DMG of the stick, and put that into the InstallerDiscs folder.  Couldn't find the version ...any suggestions?

No, and that's not the purpose. The purpose is to create bootable install media. That's all.

That makes sense.  Thanks Greg.

Peter - the answer is that you can't.  Unless InstaDMG is changed, looks like AutoDMG is the way to go.

Looks solid.  Version 1.0 also processes my pkgs for createuser and firstboot, so I am pleased.  I have a lot of 3rd party apps, and it looks like there is a finite list, bug that is no biggie.

Check out v1.0 - that should fix that error you saw before ...

... check that ... I was mindlessly trying to copy files that weren't PKGs or MPKGs into that area.  So, forget the comment about the finite list

Hello,

I have found a solution to getting the BaseOS for InstaDMG. Please see below:

First I created a USB Boot drive using the instructions (How to create the OSX 10.9 Mavericks Bootable Drive just via Terminal" from:

Then I created a new dog image of the USB drive via Disk Utility and included that file in the BaseOS folder. Works great.

Before hand I was creating the bootable usb drive using a different method which didn't create it correctly for InstaDMG

I will have to wait until Monday to try this.  Sounds pretty solid ....

I built the USB stick and I used Disk Utility to build the DMG.  I tried slipping this into BaseOS and InstallerDiscs folder, but I get the same error - cant' find it.

How did you build the DMG and what does your .catalog file look like?

Please post your debug log on gist.github.com or pastebin.com. I’m guessing you aren’t using ‘InstallESD.dmg’ or one of the other allowed names for the DMG.
