I am not sure if you read our public announcement (
http://www.inspectit.rocks/public-announcement-inspectit-future-plans-and-road-map) where we state that starting from 2019. there will not be any more work done for the inspectIT 1.x line, except for major bugs.
Starting from a few months ago, we shifted our mission and started working on a spin-off project:
https://github.com/inspectIT/inspectit-oce.
Today we released the first version of the new agent (
https://github.com/inspectIT/inspectit-oce/releases/tag/0.1.M1). Very soon we will come up with some official statement and new blog posts. But in short, we are now trying to migrate the agent to work on top of the OpenCensus implementation. This effectively means that the new project will only be offering the agent, without CMR and fat client. The agent will support sending data to anything that OpenCensus can send to (Prometheus, Zipkin, Jaeger, other commercial tools). This way, the responsibility to secure data is now moved out from inspectIT to OpenCensus and should be provided by default.
We know this is a big change, but we believe that our new vision would allow us to reach a bigger audience and solve some of the major problems versions 1.x had, like security, scalability, operability, etc. It will allow more flexibility to the user to create his own open APM landscape based on the tools he wants.
You can expect that most of the features from the old agent will be available in the new one sooner or later. We are also bringing a lot of improvements as well.
Stay tuned as in the next days we will provide quick-start demos with several scenarios, so you can easily understand where do we want to go.
Cheers,
Ivan
