IPP Installation problem

I tried installing the IPP on my PC (Vista ulimate) but the link does
not open "http://localhost/ipp-bin/check_env.pl" The Browser says that
the page cannot be loaded an dthat it could not find localhost.
During setting up after the reboot there was an error message.. it
checked for perl and it was fine but for teh second test i think for
the server.. it generated a list of errors..
incidentally the TPP installation doesnt work either.. but someone
from the Google groups is thankfully helping me out by taking me
thourgh the troubleshooting steps.. I am a biologist and please excuse
if my questions aare naive...

Thank you for trying IPP and thanks for the feedback. We have not
tested IPP on Vista. But if you are willing to try a few things we
would be glad to try to get it to work.
It sounds like Apache might not be running. Apache should make an
icon in the bottom right of the Windows task bar. This icon will have
a green dot when Apache is running and a red dot when it is stopped.
Please see if it is running and try to restart it if it is not (click
the ico and select Start). If Apache will not start, go to the
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\conf folder.
Rename the httpd.conf file http.conf.afterIPP and rename the
httpd.conf.preIPP file to httpd.conf. Note that you might not see the
file extension if Windows is set to hide them and this will make the
name changes confusing. To see the file extensions in pre-Vista
Windows you select Start | Settings | Control Panels | Folder Options
- select the View tab - check "show hidden files and folders" -
UNcheck "hide file extensions for known file types" - Click OK to
finish.
After changing the file names, try to start Apache again. If is
starts try opening 'http://localhost' in your web browser. If Apache
was not running and does run after this experiment we will know that
the IPP configuration is upsetting Apache and I will send more
instructions.

Thanks very much for helping me out.. I changed the names as you
mentioned and tried to start apache but it does not start. it still
has the red dot. when i go to start services Windows attempts to
start the service but says "windows could not start apache2.2 on the
local computer view system log for details" I am enclosing system log
for your perusal
