Some Problem in installing InsightCAE

Hello. 

This is Alireza. I am a marine engineer and recently found insight CAE tool.

It seems really awesome for daily applications which include routine jobs.

Because, I am not familiar with Linux OS, I encountered with a problem in installation process.

Can anyone help me and share his/her experience in this way?

I am really thankful for your response. 

Indeed, Linux is not conventional in my country. So use of command lies are some complicated to install software.

It seems insightCAE is a Linux based software. But I want to install it on the Win 10 OS.

I follow the procedure guided in : https://silentdynamics.de/en/oss-cae/#insight_install

But in the section determined by red box (Install InsightCAE with OpenFOAM), I encountered problems:

When I enter the following command : C:Windows\system32 > echo deb http://downloads.silentdynamics.de/ubuntu xenial main > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sd.list

But following error appears: 

out-file : Could not find a part of the path 'C:\etc\apt\sources.list.d\sd.list'.
At line:1 char:1

So, Can I give your time and ask, What Should I do?

Please notice that, I don't have any experience to install software in this method (scripting). Usually, I used software with use of clicking on the install .exe file and then next-> next-> and finish (launch).

I am really want to learn use open source libraries and software. But in the first step, I failed.

No problem. I too had a problem with installing on Windows. My work around was to install Virtual Box and install Ubuntu on it

Thank you for your guidance. 

But if it can not be installed on the Windows, I think it is better to find another software which be compatible with Windows. 

If just installation of a software takes 1 complete day, It is better to try for another.

Someone better experienced than me likely has a better fix. Open foam is available for Windows as well but will require a great deal more configuration

Dear Alireza,

it looks as if you tried to execute the command "echo deb http://downloads.silentdynamics.de/ubuntu xenial main > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sd.list" within the windows command line. This does not work.

It is meant to be executed within the bash shell (as root). Execute these two commands from the windows command line:

c:\Distros\Ubuntu\ubuntu.exe config --default-user root

c:\Distros\Ubuntu\ubuntu.exe

The first one sets the user root for subsequent execution. The second one starts the bash shell. In this shell, you can execute the "echo" command.

One remark: keep an eye of the version of the ubuntu subsystem. The instructions imply "xenial" (i.e. 16.04). The current ubuntu LTS version is "bionic" (18.04). If you selected the latest ubuntu, you might want to replace "xenial" with "bionic" in the "echo" command above.

I can understand that how much you and other friend's time is valuable.

Can I bring up a  proposal?

If you be agree, I provide a video file which describes how to install insightCAE in windows. Then you can upload it in your website or you-tube for public access.

For this goal, I need dear member, help and guide me. 

With this proposal, I can solve my problem and also help other future users to easy installation of insight CAE.
