Pick and use only one network managing service (in case of wifi-menu it's netctl) per interface.

Now that I have the solution for the desk pc (ethernet helped me downloading the drivers) I would like to use the same drivers in a new fresh installation on a laptop with no ethernet or wifi card, just USB and the same wlan adapter. Should I remaster the arch iso with the 8192eu drivers before installation?

You'll have to get the kernel module onto that system - whether you remaster an iso or just usb-walk it over doesn't matter.

Notice that the dkms package will attempt to build the module, what's likely not going to work (I've no idea, but don't think there's a compiler in the iso) - so you have to bring a precompiled module !!!for the kernel version in the iso!!!

Edit: You could use the dkms package and let it build the module after installing it on the host with the correct kernel version, and then copy it manually to the position in /usr/lib/modules. Then "rmmod" the original module and then load the new one.

I have installed the drivers from the link above ( -dkms/) and it got completed without any errors.

I can see the SSIDs available and upon connecting i get an error connection to 'BSSID' is deactivated. i tried with wpa_supplicant and systemd.

After following the installation guide that came with the dongle (make clean > make > ifconfig wlan0 up etc etc etc....) the dongle started working half-arsedly. The LED does not glow at all so it is impossible to determine wether it is on or not and the only way to know for sure is to follow the iwconfig/ifconfig commands to see if it's up or down.

So far I have tried uninstalling the 9182eu driver and reinstalling it which did not work. I've tried to just switch the dongle of an on with ifconfig wlan0 down/up, this also did not work.

Hope this helps. But I lost trust to tp-link. These dongles are so expensive! Yet they didn't provide any support to you, this thread has no response! There are surely many people with the exact same problem. You see they provide driver for Windows, but not for Linux!

Kernel drivers are easily out of date, and incompatible with newer operating systems. You cannot find the TP-Link device because its driver is simply not working on Mojave. Without a current, compatible kernel driver, you have a worthless adapter on Mojave.

The author never mentioned what explicit version of Mojave was in use with that beta TP-link software. If we assume that he was on 10.14.3 which came out on Feb 7, then there have been two more updates to Mojave, any one of them could have introduced Apple changes that snafu'd the TP-Link kernel driver. Or not.

As VikingOSX says the drivers aka Kexts need to be sufficiently up-to-date to be compatible with your Mac operating system. Sometimes older driver can be got to work by disabling the SIP security protection with the risks that implies.

As you appear to have already found the article listing a beta driver which might well work I will merely list the following thread which discusses some other possible USB adapters to try - -usb-wifi-adapter-compatibility-with-os-x-mojave.260829/

As I mentioned previously, the current beta driver software is for the V3 device, and if you have older hardware, you may get the menu extra functionality, without any further driver detection of the older hardware.

Sadly I made the mistake of not checking decent Linux support before buying.

Anyways, my 2 cents, lsub should show which drivers to use - apparently tp-link change internals without changing the model number.

i am using a tp-link tl-wn823n usb adapter

i have searched and can find loads relating to the raspberry pi 3

i was thinking that i need to install the driver for the usb adapter but can find no information on this set up using octopi..

any help that anyone could give would be great

i have bought an ender 3 3D printer and it came with the raspberry pi 2 which i have managed to install octopi on it using a ethernet cable to connect to the internet.I thought it would be easier to use a usb adapter to connect to the wifi..i am now however thinking it may be easier for me just to use a long ethernet cable.

If you are unfamiliar with the RaspberryPi I would recommend that you get it going with Rasbian and use it as a computer. I used one for a while with TP-link wifi without any special drivers and it worked fine. Then when you are comfortable with it look on Youtube for a 'how to' load Octopi video. There are several good ones. It's not as hard to get Octopi working as you think. Good luck and feel free to contact me if needs be. Not everyone on here is an elitist.
