to Input Director
Hi, I have been using Input Director  for several years, but in recent times (last few months) I am having problems with the controlling system dropping the connection to the client (client marked with a red cross). Sometimes the connection is resumed automatically, but most of the times I must disconnect/reconnect to the wireless network, and/or open Input Director on the client and scanning for client systems in order to find the controlling system (without actually adding it as client!). The connection resumes, but usually just for a minute or two, then it's dropped again. I have followed all the advice found in the FAQs, without success. The "Network Quality" is detected as "Good" on both systems. I have increased the Time to wait for a system to respond to 5 seconds. Use cached IP addresses is deselected. I do not know what I should do anymore... can anyone please help? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

It sounds like the computers have a poor quality connection to the WiFi network. Can you try moving the computers closers to the Wireless Access Point or connect them to the network using a cable?

Regs,

Shane.

Hi Shane, thanks for your reply.
I have now realized that Input Director does not work correctly when I am using my smartphone as hotspot. It works as usual when I am connected to my home wifi network. I was baffled because the smartphone connection is reported as good and I can indeed use the Internet without any issues. BTW, my smartphone is placed next to the computers, so the local network quality should be good... Shouldn't Input Director use the local network and be independent of the Internet connection quality?
Now I have tried another configuration for when I am not at home and my home wifi is not available. I have connected my smartphone to my main computer via USB and enabled tethering. Then I have turned on the hotspot feature on my main computer, and connected the client computer to this hotspot. It seems that Input Director likes this configuration better :-)
I hope my feedback can be of use.
Kind regards,
Alessandra
