I just downloaded and installed on a clean windows 2k3 system the
latest version of input director 1.2.2. Worked great but after a day
I got the error "Input Director is unable to start as its background
scheduled task is not running.

This appeared in the application event log:

Failed to create the Input Director Service Helper process. Error Code
87.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, even tried the two previous
versions but I get this every time now. Is there any way to clear
user settings so it doesn't try to use the backgrounding?

Thanks,
Dan

Were any other applications installed between Input Director working
and not working?

Input Director needs its background process to be running to function.
An error 87 points to an internal Input Director bug, but I suspect
this is due to something on the system that isn't been catered for /
is different.

I have the exact same error and now I can't get it to start anymore,
uninstall reinstall doesn't work. It is on Windows7 64 as
InputDirector slave.

It all happens after logging off and log back on, then this error.
Could it be the recent MS update KB977074?

Any other possibilities that could cause this error? I have been
running Inputdirector on this machine for almost half a year no
problem until now. Anyway to force it to start?

Thanks.

The problem is solved after I've reverted Windows7 prior to MS update
KB977074, so it is highly probably that KB977074 installed something
that is causing the problem.

Might be good to have a look into that, could be some MS security
features that stops Input Director's background task from starting?

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know - I'll do some digging and see what I can
find.
