Hi

I've been using the 1.22.76 version of Input Director on 3 different computers all running different operating systems... Computer 1 (slave) Windows XP... Computer 2 (master) Vista... Computer 3 (slave) Windows 7.

As you can see I have 3 computers connected to my router with the Master computer and monitor in the middle so I can move my mouse across the 3 monitors connected to each computer.

NB: I haven't changed any settings or downloaded any updates for any software up to this point.

Today 28th March 2011 an odd problem is occuring.

When I move the mouse over to the monitor on my right which is connected to a computer running Windows 7 the mouse is able to move over to the monitor for only 1 minute, and then I get the pop up message "Slave system failed to respond".

I then found that if I click "End Input Director" on the Windows 7 running in slave mode I then get a message saying  "Slave System now available" even though I closed the program down. I find that I can move my mouse between Computer 2 running Vista in Master mode and Computer 3 in slave mode for 1 minute, I then get another pop up message saying "Slave system failed to respond".

It's really odd, I have to keep on closing down and restarting Input Director on the computer on the right in slave mode using Windows 7 just so it will allow me to move my mouse from the monitor in the middle connected to the computer using Vista operating system. Each session after closing down Input Director and restarting it lasts approx 1 minute... then the message "Slave system failed to respond".

My computer on the left running Windows XP is still being connected to without any problems and the mouse goes over to that monitor fine.

Update: downloaded and installed latest beta version.

I have updated to the latest beta version to to if that would resolve the problem but it has not fixed the problem.

I've checked everything in my control panel for "Network Magic" a program by Cisco for networking and everything is showing up fine. No problems with my network connections.

I'm completely at a loss as to whats happened. As mentioned earlier I haven't changed anything.

The only thing that changed today was my local Time Zone. I'm in the UK and we have just changed to "British Summer Time" so all the clocks went forward 1 hour. My 3 computers updated their time zones automatically. Checked settings in router for Time Zone and it was displaying correct time.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mack

I'm not a moderator, but I'm wondering about a few details to see if
it's the problem I had solved by the author Shane awhile back. Are
you using DHCP on each of your computer's adapter settings? On your
router? Are you adding slaves by their network names or IPs? Are you
using the Homegroup service on your 7 computer? I might be able to
help, but this is my first attempt at jumping in on a forum here, so
if you'd rather wait for an possible answer from a moderator, that's
cool.

I just posted two down from yours here at the forum, so I'll be around
the site. I'm happy to be around the site for any length of
beneficial time since this program is so valuable to others and
myself.

Hi again

Update on this issue. I discovered that in the "Trusted Zone" in my Firewall "Zone Alarm" some how the settings had changed from "Trusted" to "Internet". I changed it back to "Trusted" and Input Director is now working correctly again.

Hi Mike

Thanks for replying,

I'm not sure about the Homegroup thing or DHCP, all I know it was
working yesterday and up til yesterday worked perfect for a whole
year, however today I can't get my computer in the middle using Vista
to connect to Windows 7 on the right. Keeps getting disconnected after
1 minute.

I've tried changing between computer names, IP adresses, also tried
"Mac Clone" in my Lyksys router which used to resolve the
disconnection issue. This used to work perfect if I ever had a problem
linking everything together to a central command computer.

I also switched from wireless and connected direct link hard wired to
my router and the same thing is happening... I've had to deny all the
messages saying "Slave system failed to respond" which basically
excludes my computer on the right running Win 7 from me being able to
access my main computer in the middle.

I'd check the firewall next. Sometimes a rule takes a minute to take
effect. The ID installer's rule may have become overwritten. If your
slave's program is failing as opposed to running ok but not found, I'd
add a anti-virus exception too.
