Hi I have been using ID for several months with no problem on WinXP
Pro SP3 but recently I receive the message Input director unable to
start as its background scheduled task is not running.
I have checked Services and it says Input Director Service is running.
Stopping and Starting the service has no effect, nor has upgrading
from V1.2.1 to 1.2.2.
I will now be lost without this useful application and have a
cluttered desk again - any ideas anyone?

Check the Windows Event log for Input Director errors - are there any?

Try doing a full uninstall of Input Director (and during
uninstallation, answer 'yes' to remove the Input Director
configuration). Then reboot your machine and doing a fresh install of
Input Director.

Regs,

Shane.

Solved
When trying to view the event logs I found I had "Access denied" even
though I was logged in as Administrator - I found this fix
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1079313808 which relates
removing the membership of the Guests group from the currently logged
in administrator. After following this guide I had access to the event
viewer AND curiously enough Input director now works OK.
Thank you for your help - Dick

Ah - that makes sense. As a security precaution, guest accounts cannot
access the Input Director service, only an authorised logged in user.
