hi, does anyone know if and how 2 computers can be setup to use 1
monitor using Input Director?

It's easy!

You first need a monitor that accepts multiple inputs, and has a facility to switch between inputs on the fly.

In my case I'm two machines on a single monitor: one connected via VGA, the other DVI.

You simply install ID on both PCs, assign individual IPs, and connect. Assign one as slave, the other as master.

Then assign where you want the mouse to exit/enter (left, right, top, bottom)

After that you should be ready to go, simply switch video feed to change PC control.

RemoteDeskTop is one option. VNC is another. These let you display the
screen of one PC in a window on another.

But you don't need ID to use either of those options, right?

This might help me with a problem I am having running a networked device in conjunction with ID.

If RDT and VNC are options why use ID at all?

I opted for it because I figured it would be more stable in the context of using AV software where audio data is streaming from PC to the next.

Indeed, what you says is true.  Then you need two monitors, or at least a monitor that has acceptable picture in picture or switching.
