Hi,
I have been using ID for a couple of weeks but it's just stopped
working for some reason and I cannot figure out the problem.

My master is Win7 (running as admin) and slave is XP.
No, when I scan for slaves I get the message the slave is not
responding.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled on both PCs.
I tried setting the slave as master and told it to scan and I got a
message on the Win7 PC saying an unauthorized master was trying to
connect.

However, if I do the same scan from the Win7 pc to the XP pc I do not
get any message.
It seems like there is no communication from Win7 to XP.
The XP pc has firewall disabled, and I can run Synergy fine, and I was
running ID fine.

I'm stumped why ID is not communicating

Hey, I keep running in to this and its cause I forget on the slave
configuration to put the bullet at "Allow any computer to take
control".

Try that and then work your way to setting it up securely.

Tried that, no luck.
It appears that there is no communication going out of the Master
(Win7) box.
If I do a scan for slaves it simply comes back with the slave not
responding.

But, if I go to the Slave PC (WinXP) and tell it to scan for slaves, I
get a popup on the Master (Win7) pc saying 'An unauthorized master
system "Slave" is communicating as if Input Director is in slave mode.
Do you wish to add this host as an authorised master and switch to
slave mode?"

Unfortunately, if I do set it as slave and do another scan from the
other pc I simply get the 'Slave 'xyz' didn't respond.' message.

This has me stumped, I'm fairly certain I didn't change anything
before it stopped working, and can't figure out what it is that is
stopping it working now. I've even tried disabling the firewalls on
both PCs with no luck.

I've been using Synergy2 but that has a bug where you have to keep
restarting the service before it will connect, and since the last
release was sometime in 2006 I doubt that it'll ever be fixed.

Hi Ldb,

It sounds like something somewhere is blocking the UDP traffic from
the master to your slave, but not the other way around.

The usual suspects are:

1. Software firewall on master and/or slave
2. Firewall/router rules on the network device(s) between the two
systems
3. Active VPN client on either machine
4. Unable to route / routing problems - Is one machine wireless and
the other wired?
5. hostnames don't resolve to the correct ip address (pointing to a
non-existent machine)

If you email me your ipconfig / route print dump I might be able to
help (contact details here: http://www.inputdirector.com/contact.html).

Shane.

Hi,

1. I've tried disabling the firewall, still with no luck.
2. Tried adding port forwarding rules (never had them when it was
working), no luck.
3. No vpn.
4. The main pc is wired, the laptop wireless.
5. IPs should be ok, they havn't changed.

How do I get a route print dump ?

Thanks

Hi,

Start a command prompt, and type:

route print > routedump.txt

Then type:

ipconfig /all > ipconfigdump.txt

Do this on both master and slave and send me the 4 files.

The other thing to try on Input Director is to set a preferred network
interface on both systems. This option can be found on the "Global
Preferences" tab. Hitting "Change" will bring up a list of the
networks connected to a computer. Try selecting the your local LAN
network (it can sometimes be difficult to identify one from the other,
but will probably be a 192.168.0.* address)

Regs,

Shane.

I am having a somewhat similar issue with a twist.

To start with, the master is windows 7 64bit, and the slave is vista
64 bit. I was previously using it with both VistaX64 with no problems
and just recently upgraded.
When I first start ID on the master, if I scan, the slave shows with a
question mark next to it. I am able to transition to it briefly, and
it is rather jerky. After about 5-10 seconds, the slave stops
responding. From then on if i scan i get nothing. Only after shutting
down ID on the master does the whole thing repeat itself.

I am not sure what version I had, but when I installed the newest one
on Win7, it said there was a version mismatch. So I updated ID on the
slave. I also opted to keep the configuration.

I'm having the exact same problem as lbassom. Tried many of the same
things. Still stumped too.

The bummer is that it worked smoothly for months prior. Just installed
the latest version. Problem still exists. If I were to guess, I'm
having firewall (either software or hardware issues). But just don't
have time to figure them out.
