Why Heap increases?

I am running a BAS 5.0.2. After deploying my EAR, i notice that even
if
i do not perform any connections/transactions, the graph on
theEnterprise console of the heap memory (which can be accessed if
you click on the partition name and click the 'Memory' tab on the
right ) keeps rising slightly.
