News of the trapped workers spread fast after a Nov. 12 early morning landslide caused a portion of the 4.5-kilometer (2.8-mile) Silkyara Tunnel they were building near the town of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand state to collapse about 200 meters (650 feet) from the entrance.
No one was seriously injured or killed in the collapse but the engineers on the team knew they had their task cut out for them. They had to penetrate through rocks and metal to reach the workers trapped behind a wall of nearly 60 meters (197 feet) of debris.
The trapped workers, who were in the meantime being supplied with food and oxygen through a narrower pipe, were at the risk of falling sick. Officials who kept watch near the tunnel, and even local residents, began offering prayers at a small makeshift Hindu temple in the area, seeking divine help.
Although early work on a third series was already underway by December 2018,[9] with filming commencing in September 2020,[10] the third series did not premiere on RÚV until 17 October 2021.[11] It was released internationally on Netflix under the title Entrapped on 8 September 2022, edited into six episodes, compared to the original eight.[12]
Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly called the film "a negligible work of manipulation, an exploitation piece doing its usual worst to guilt-trip parents." She felt "The most frightening sight, though, is that of Theron and Bacon, good actors trapped in the muck of making a living."[6] Robert K. Elder of the Chicago Tribune wrote: "Excellent abduction films such as Breakdown and the original The Vanishing maintain a sense of danger and claustrophobia by keeping the conflicts mostly internal, turning up the temperature under a fluctuating tone of emotional duress. Trapped splashes its drama all over the screen, subjecting its audience and characters to action that feels not only manufactured, but also so false you can see the filmmakers' puppet strings."[7] One of the few critics who gave a favorable review was Megan Turner of the New York Post who described the film as "a tightly drawn, propulsive thriller with some pleasingly unexpected kinks in the tale and a couple of believable performances from Charlize Theron and Kevin Bacon in the leads."[8]
The trapped lung is defined as the inability of the lung to expand and fill the thoracic cavity because of a fibrinous restrictive pleural layer that prevents normal visceral and parietal pleural apposition. It is caused by remote inflammation of the pleura and typically presents as chronic stable pleural effusion. To avoid the high morbidity associated with multiple invasive diagnostic procedures, it must be promptly diagnosed and treated. This activity reviews the etiology, evaluation, and treatment of trapped lung and highlights the role of interprofessional diagnosis, timely evaluation, and management.

Non-expandable lung (NEL) is a term used to describe entities that are characterized by the inability of the lung to expand into the chest cavity or respective pleural space. There are three distinct causes of NEL: a) An endobronchial lesion obstructing the lumen of the bronchus leading to the distal lobar collapse, b) chronic atelectasis, and c) visceral pleural restriction due to pleural disease resulting in the trapped lung. The trapped lung, first described in 1967, is a clinical entity that is characterized by the presence of a restrictive visceral pleura.[1]
