The Rocket Jumper is a primary weapon for the Soldier. It is similar in shape to the Rocket Launcher, but with an orange-and-white painted exhaust, a triangular sign depicting a silhouette of a rocket jumping Soldier, and a flared muzzle.

The Rocket Jumper fires completely harmless rockets, allowing players to freely practice rocket jumping techniques without taking self-inflicted damage from explosions. The ammo count for the weapon is also tripled, giving the user forty extra rockets to use. While in midair via a Rocket Jumper rocket jump, a distinct flying sound plays, acknowledging the player's success. However, rockets fired from the Rocket Jumper deal no damage or knockback to enemy players, making it completely ineffective as an actual weapon. In addition, players equipped with this weapon are unable to carry the objective pickup in Capture the Flag, Special Delivery, and PASS Time.

The Rocket-Jumper Elite Advance Unit (R-EAU), known commonly as the Republic rocket-jumpers, was an elite soldier equipped with a rocket pack, used by the Galactic Republic millennia before the rise of the Empire. They were organized as a part of the Republic Army.

The rocket jumpers held two primary objectives on the battlefield. The first was to hold the line until reinforcements from the Republic arrived or assistance was received from either heavy artillery or starship. Their second mission directive was to provide limited forms of reconnaissance, as well as conduct rescue and quick response operations.[4] After they developed their reputation as an elite force, the rocket-jumpers began to participate in special ops missions such as VIP extractions as well as the destruction of enemy weapon emplacements.[1] Republic rocket-jumpers were also deployed to break stalemates and sieges by dropping straight into the heavy fighting.[5] While these were the normal purposes of the unit, it was known that they were also capable of taking part in large scale engagements where they served as a forward response element.[4]

Due to the group being an elite unit, as well as the dangers faced on their missions, only the most skilled of combat officers and soldiers were allowed to join them. Out of those that joined, only 8% of candidates managed to receive a rocket-jumper billet. Those soldiers part of the unit were infamous for their bizarre behavior when not on duty hours,[4] with it being noted that they engaged in drinking, fighting, and a number of stunts. It was known that most patrons avoided locales where rocket-jumpers congregated and such locations were the most difficult to insure in Galactic City.[1]

Despite all this, they were dedicated soldiers while on a mission and maintained that discipline on the field. They were expected to succeed on the battlefield, or die trying. Due to their high level of discipline, they refused to fail or surrender under any circumstances, putting their mission objectives before anything and everything else.[4] This meant that only the most qualified as well as dedicated of troopers were allowed to serve the Republic in the role of rocket-jumpers.[5]

The unit was initially formed in the year 11,000 BBY when a reliable form of jet-propelled packs was developed. During the Pius Dea Civil War, which ended Pius Dea domination over the Galactic Republic, rocket jumpers played an important role in the Jedi victory over Pius Dea forces on Ord Carida.[6] Since that time, they participated in major battles which included the Second Herglic Feud, the Waymancy Storm, the Gank Massacres and the Quesaya Border Conflict. Senator Netus served with them prior to his service as Minister of Defense. During the Great Droid Revolution, they were defeated by Juggernaut war droids in a battle over Monument Plaza on Coruscant.[1] Ironically, the droids had been originally commissioned by decorated rocket-jumper veteran Supreme Chancellor Vocatara during the Gank Massacres.[6]

Following a call for Republic aid from Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma during the Freedon Nadd Uprising on Onderon, they deployed from rocket-jumper troopships in the skies of the capital city of Iziz. Supporting the Beast Riders of Onderon in battle against Naddist forces, the rocket-jumpers descended through hostile artillery fire to engage the ground-based enemy.[2]

They were ultimately disbanded in the year 1000 BBY, following the Ruusan Reformation which saw the Republic Army vanish and be replaced by the Judicial Forces. While they no longer operated, the tactics of the group continued to live on. During the Clone Wars, the newly formed Grand Army of the Republic made use of clone jet troopers that employed the same lightning tactics as the old rocket-jumper divisions. The Galactic Empire also continued the practice by commissioning Airtrooper military units.[1] In this later era, the Republic rocket-jumpers were one of a number of special forces noted in the history of the galaxy, where they stood alongside such units as the Freedom Warriors and Atrisian Assault Corps.[5]

During the Galactic Civil War, a group of pirates used antique rocket packs from Old Republic rocket-jumpers to assault orbital shuttles as they passed through the topcloud layers of Corellia's atmosphere.[8]

In shooter games, rocket jumping is the technique of using the knockback of an explosive weapon, most often a rocket launcher, to launch the shooter into the air.[1] The aim of this technique is to reach heights and distances that standard character movement cannot achieve. Although the origin of rocket jumping is unclear,[2] its usage was popularized by Quake.

Rocket jumping is used often in competitive play, where it can allow the player to gain quick bursts of speed, reach normally unobtainable heights, secure positional advantages, or in speedrunning.[3] However, a potential consequence of rocket jumping is that it can injure the player, either from the blast or from fall damage.[4] This effect makes the technique less useful in games where the damage from the blast and/or fall is high, or where health is difficult to replenish. Rocket jumping from standing is impractical in real life, and would be certainly fatal if attempted. However, ejection seats from an aircraft are, in effect, a combination of a seated rocket jump and a parachute.

While using explosives to propel oneself was first seen in Doom, the modern technique became a core mechanic in Quake. By exploiting the physics of the Quake engine, many advanced movement techniques were spawned such as circle jumping, strafing, bunny hopping, and explosive jumping. Rocket jumping was kept as an intentional mechanic for the leading games in the Quake series. In Quake III: Arena some of the computer-controlled opponents use rocket jumps.[5]

The first games to feature vertical rocket jumping were Bungie's Marathon and 3D Realms' Rise of the Triad, which were both released on the same day. It was featured the same year on The Outfoxies. Rocket jumping became very popular in the original Quake (1996), and was used as an advanced technique for deathmatch play[7] as well as for the Quake done Quick series.

In the game Team Fortress 2 (2007), the Soldier class can use his rockets to rocket jump. This is an intentional feature with several mechanics associated with it. The game features numerous unlockable weapons with attributes that only affect rocket jumping or only apply while rocket jumping. The Demoman class can achieve a similar effect using his own assortment of explosive weapons. It is also possible to use knockback provided by enemy explosives to perform a similarly boosted jump as any class.[8]

Seranok's Rocket Jumper 750DescriptionAim at the ground to propel yourself into the air! Also shoot rockets at people.Page last updated on March 28, 2023Seranok's Rocket Jumper is a gear that was published in the avatar shop by Roblox on August 1, 2014. It can be purchased for 750 Robux. As of August 15, 2021, it has been purchased 917 times and favorited 2,567 times.

It is a red and silver rocket launcher that shoots rockets that can be used for harmless Rocket Jumping. When maxed-out, it has a medium damage output, fast fire-rate, high rocket jump (hence its name) and fast projectile travel.

It is a red and silver rocket launcher. Its nozzle is mostly silver. It is also large and has a construction ribbon on it. The other part of the gun is red, it has a gray handle and has a decently large clip.

The weapon is held by both of the player's hands. It shoots at a fast fire rate, rockets with a moderately fast travel speed which deal no self-damage. The weapon holds 12 rockets per magazine and when spawning, the player is given two extra magazines.

As Arda Xi mentioned, if you are crouching when the rocket explodes, you will go higher. In some cases, it's best not to crouch when jumping, like when you don't want to over-shoot your target, or to avoid fall damage.

One way to get a consistent rocket jump is to use a script, which condenses all the key presses into a single command. I provide an example rocket jump script at the end of the post. To use it, copy the text to Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\cfg\soldier.cfg and rebind the keys as necessary.

Like all Aerial troopers, the Rebel Rocket-Jumper is equipped with a jetpack that can propel her forward and upwards and be used for some flight. The Rebel Rocket-Jumper is also equipped with a precise rocket launcher. The Rebel Rocket-Jumper wields an improved version of the A280C.

I've used minimized viewmodels for the past 4 months playing the game, mainly doing jump maps. I just switched yesterday to the regular viewmodels and I swear that the rocket comes out higher for the stock rocket launcher with the default viewmodel than the minimized viewmodel. I especially notice this when doing wall jumps or wall climbs.
