I am often on one computer in my house and I would like to SSH to another one, but often don't know the IP address of the one I want to connect to. Is there a way, from the command line, to scan the local network so I can find the computer I want to connect to?

Even if you have downloaded some updates, there may be more available. After trying the preceding steps, run Windows Update again by selecting Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates . Download and install any new updates.

Your computer might be slow for a number of reasons, but updating to the latest version of Windows 11 can improve its performance. For help with a slow computer, see Tips to improve PC performance in Windows .

If anybody wants to play podcasts on his hifi equipment it should be enough to buy a bluetooth audio aptX adapter, (about 10-30 $), connect it with the amplifier, and then stream from his tablet or smartphone. This is the most comfortable and cheapest solution ever. And this is exactly what I am doing right in this moment...;-)

I have a 3060, 8gb of ram with 6 allocated, and an i7. I even tried installing it onto my SSD to see if that helped. I get that it's very early alpha, but is there anything anyone can recommend that can at least make it playable

Retrocomputing Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for vintage-computer hobbyists interested in restoring, preserving, and using the classic computer and gaming systems of yesteryear. It only takes a minute to sign up.

A bit of a trivia question: What is the oldest hardware capable of running a modern Linux-based operating system, including user-space? (Not necessarily GNU userspace, but running a standard GNU/Linux distro would be most interesting.)

By this I mean being capable of running a fairly recent Linux kernel, in some form. I've found out that the Amiga 1200, launched in 1992 can run Debian (video), but are there any older computers capable of this ?

The reasonable way to do this is to install Gentoo using a fast machine onto an older hard drive, and then move the hard drive onto the old machine once done. There are some cheap USB-to-IDE adapters you can get for around $20 to do this. Recompiling on an old computer is painfully slow, even with large amounts of memory.

Another subtle problem is that the BIOS on such old computers often have bugs, so using the GRUB or Legacy GRUB bootloaders don't work. I have the most success installing the ancient LILO bootloader. It isn't pretty, but it works best on such old hardware.

I have a 1991 Sun Ultra 1 from 1991 which can run the very latest Linux kernel (I do so under the Gentoo distribution). As old computers go, though, it is quite modern, with a 64-bit CPU, and I've equipped it with a full gigabyte of RAM, which was almost unheard of in that era.

32 chunk render distance is incredibly resource demanding, as this comment on an issue on the bug tracker suggests:

Stop having silly high distances (32) and expect things to load instantly if you have a subpar computer (you basically need a super computer and even then you are going to sit and wait 30+ seconds for the data to generate).

Even with a high end computer they say you have to wait 30 seconds or more for chunks to load. Also, things are even worse if the game has to generate chunks, not just load them, as suggested by this bug report (originally for customized worlds, but also applies to normal worlds, largely due to trying to use high render distances). Having an 8-core CPU (actually, 4 cores with hyperthreading, which is not equivalent to 8 physical cores) also won't help much for generating chunks since they only multithreaded chunk loading and a few other things like mob pathfinding, but not world generation.

Also, you do not have enough memory allocated (97% used out of 1011 MB); actually, I'm surprised that you can even use 32 chunk render distance; I only see an option for up to 16 chunks in video settings so I'm wondering if you edited options.txt (or have Optifine, but I don't see an Optifine version in the debug screen) since normally the game limits you to 16 chunks unless you allocate at least 2 GB of memory:

Render Distance slider doesn't go beyond 16 Chunks

You need to have at least 2GB of RAM allocated for Minecraft for that option to be available. To allocate more than 2GB of RAM, you must have 64-bit Java installed.

In order to allocate the amount of desired RAM, edit the profile JVM Arguments to include -Xmx2G.

Note that 32 chunk render distance loads four times as many chunks (32 / 16 squared) as 16 chunks, which is why it is so much more demanding thanwhat you may have experienced in older versions (versions prior to 1.7.4 don't even load more than 10 chunks in singleplayer due to the internal server not adjusting to render distance changes); the internal server appears to be particularly prone to performance issues as mentioned above.

Also, if you use multiple versions, including 1.7.x, be aware that 1.7.x will crash if the render distance is set to higher than 16 chunks (such as from running 1.8 beforehand), so you should make a separate profile for it (among other reasons).

I did have optifine installed but didnt have it enabled for this, just a pure 1.8.7 install, which is where I think my ram issues come into play as I left it as default
Ill try give it a boost as well and see what happens. what would be a good setting to set ram to? 4? 8?

Windows 11 is the next major version of the Windows operating system (OS) that Microsoft plans to release before the end of 2021. Microsoft has not released another version of Windows for 6 years because Windows 10 was a continuously updated operating system. You are able to find more answers by the following FAQ about Windows 11.

Most Windows 10 PCs currently being sold will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. For the PC to be able to upgrade to Windows 11, it must meet the minimum hardware specifications and specific hardware is required for some features. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device.

If your existing Windows 10 PC is running the most current version of Windows 10 and meets the minimum hardware specifications it will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized, but for most devices already in use today, we expect it to be ready sometime in early 2022. Not all Windows 10 PCs that are eligible to upgrade to Windows 11 will be offered to upgrade at the same time. To see if your PC is eligible to upgrade, you can download and run the PC Health Check app to determine if your PC is eligible to upgrade to Windows 11. Once the upgrade rollout has started, you can check if it is ready for your device by going to Settings > Windows Updates.

If your PC meets the minimum hardware specifications, the Windows 10 Home edition in S mode can upgrade to the Windows 11 Home edition in S mode. If your Windows 10 PC is running the Pro edition in S mode, you will need to switch out of S mode to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro. Windows 11 Pro edition is not available in S mode.

To see if your PC is eligible to upgrade, you can download and run the PC Health Check app to determine if your PC is eligible to upgrade to Windows 11. Many PCs that are less than four years old will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. They must be running the most current version of Windows 10 and meet the minimum hardware requirements.

Further testing after running into the same problem after computer restart. I think the problem was actually resolved by running Docker Desktop as Administrator. I think there are some conflicting admin privileges that might be leading to problems? A lot of speculation but hoping this helps someone else.

If your computer meets the Windows system requirements above, but Chrome isn't starting or you find an error message about an unsupported version of Windows, you might have Chrome set to run in Windows' Compatibility Mode. Compatibility Mode isn't supported in Chrome.

If there isn't enough space to download and install an update, the software on your device will try to make space. It will remove only app data that it can download again and doesn't remove or relocate any of your data. If your device still doesn't have enough space, you can use your computer to update your device.

Provide a small set of extensions to standard programming languages, like C, that enable a straightforward implementation of parallel algorithms. With CUDA C/C++, programmers can focus on the task of parallelization of the algorithms rather than spending time on their implementation.
