I want to transfer my save data from Suikoden 1 to Suikoden 2. I play both games in Duckstation core of RetroArch. When I start the second Suikoden, the game asks me if I wanna transfer my saved data from Suikoden 1, but when I choose the memory card option it does not detect the save file.

I want to import my Suikoden 1 save to Suikoden 2 in order to get the real ending, etc. The original srm file for Suikoden 1 is in my ROMS folder labeled as Suikoden.srm. I tried copying and pasting the file and renaming it to Suikoden II.srm but the Suikoden 2 game will not recognize the save; the game sees two save files but provides me with "cannot load" text. Has anyone else had this issue? Can any of you assist me with loading the previous game's data into the sequel? I'm using .ISO files that are from the same region (NTSC) so I'm unsure as to why this is happening. I'm using pcsx-rearmed with my RetroPie 4.3.

A feature used throughout the series where the game recognizes an old save from a previous installment and unlocks various features in the playthrough. While not the first game series to utilize such a function, it may be the most well known example.

Unfortunately all they had was a save near the end of the game. So then I fumbled through the final battle, picking characters who looked like high level mages for my team, and some high level guys who looked like good front row fighters. At least there were no big surprises ruined. My aborted first playthrough meant I already knew the identities of the villains.

I think it should work if you just start a suikoden 2 game and save it (just to get the filename) and then rename your suikoden 1 save to overwrite it. Start a new game and it should hopefully see the suikoden 1 save.

This Suikoden III (幻想水滸伝III, Gensōsuikoden III) save file allows players to play a save file of the PS2 Classic version of Suikoden III with data imported from Suikoden II, something not normally provided for by the game.

Currently, there are save files for both the North American and European versions of Suikoden III available on the PlayStation Network. They are PS2 Virtual Memory Cards containing Suikoden II data, embedded within Suikoden III's Saved Data Utility, which the PS3 accesses for PS2 Classic saved games, rather than the normal Virtual Memory Card system.

Back in 2002, Suikoden III was designed to be able to incorporate data from a Suikoden II save file. This would done by using the PlayStation 2's Memory Card manager to transfer a Suikoden II from a PlayStation Memory Card to a PlayStation 2 Memory Card.

When the backwards-compatible PlayStation 3 was released in 2006, Virtual Memory Cards were created to store save files from backwards-compatible PS1 and PS2 discs. However, there was no provision for transferring data from a PS1 Virtual Memory Card to a PS2 Virtual Memory Card as Suikoden III was the only game to take advantage of such a feature.

There were ways around this, with it being possible, with the right accessories, to move a Virtual Memory Card save of Suikoden II to a physical PlayStation 2 Memory Card, starting a new game of Suikoden III on a physical PS2, saving it on the physical PS2 Memory Card and transferring that Suikoden III save, with uploaded data, back to the PlayStation 2 Virtual Memory Card on the PlayStation 3 and playing on from there with a physical Suikoden III disc.

However, this unwieldy method does not work with the PS2 Classics version of Suikoden III as it does not access the PlayStation or PS2 Virtual Memory Cards at all. Instead, PS2 Classic titles have their own Virtual Memory Cards embedded within their individual Saved Data Utility (PS2) file, accessible only by that game. Because of this, no other save file, from Suikoden II or Suikoden III, can be added to the PS2 Classic's memory normally through the PlayStation 3's XMB.

With the use of a selection of programs, however, a "perfect run" of Suikoden II, with another "perfect run" of the first Suikoden uploaded to it, has been extracted, decoded, converted into a PS2 recognizable format and inserted into Suikoden III's Saved Data Utility (PS2) file, allowing players to choose this file when asked to import a Suikoden II save.

Suikoden II takes place 3 years after the events of the original Suikoden and centers on an invasion of the City-States of Jowston by the Kingdom of Highland. The player controls a silent protagonist who is the adopted son of Genkaku, a hero who saved the City-States of Jowston in a war against Highland years ago. The protagonist and his best friend, Jowy Atreides, each gain one half of the Rune of the Beginning, one of the 27 True Runes of the Suikoden setting, and become caught up in the intrigues of the invasion and the dark fate of those who bear the halves of that Rune. As with other Suikoden titles, the game also centers on the recruitment of the 108 Stars of Destiny, who together have the power to alter fate.

Updates from the original Suikoden include a grid and unit based tactical battle system, the addition of a three rune slot system which allows for three different runes to be equipped at once, a party inventory system, a "dash" button that allowed the player to move around the screen quicker, and vast graphical improvement. Also notable is the inclusion of a variety of mini-games including one quite reminiscent of Iron Chef. A transfer of data from the prior game in the series enables returning characters to enter the fray with higher levels and improved weapons. References to the original Suikoden are also adapted accordingly for a greater feel in continuity.

As with all Suikoden games, the principal cast of the game is the 108 Stars of Destiny, who play important or minor roles in the plot of the game. Some prominent Stars of Destiny from the original Suikoden appear in Suikoden II and play key roles in the game, including Viktor and Flik. If the player loads save data from the original Suikoden at the beginning of the game, the protagonist of the previous game can be recruited.

apparently my codes simulates a turn-based combat like suikoden game where two parties fighting and each party has six members at most, so I do understand that there will be lots of looping and reading the same code over and over again

I had to increase looplimit to *looplimit 3000 instead of 1000 in order to get the save system for FH to work, it might be worth trying to just increase it rather than turning it off to see if that gives enough space for the combat to run as intended.
