For many aspiring drivers, their formative years are spent in one of the hundreds of karting championships that run across the UK. But, for two-time Civic Cup champion Lee Deegan, his early motorsport career was in an entirely different discipline: autograss.
Beagle Engineering have launched the newest division of motorsport transmissions manufacturing, Elite Autograss Transmissions. The new division is dedicated to the manufacture of Autograss specific transmission parts, all of which can be purchased via the online store available at eliteautograss.co.uk
In autograss, drivers traverse a roughly 400m unpaved oval circuit, which starts as a grass track but quickly devolves into mud. Each class competes in four to six-lap sets with six to eight cars in each heat. From there, racers move on to six to eight-lap finals for each class to determine the winner. This means multiple winners and plenty of opportunities to compete.
Class 1 autograss vehicles include mini saloon, Bubble Micra, Yaris, Peugeot 106, or Citroen AX cars. Engines must remain standard, with tight restrictions on modifications to maintain safety and cost-efficiency. This is the class junior racers can participate in.
In autograss, various types of cars race on tracks made of grass or dirt. Races are often held on agricultural land, with drivers racing around muddy grass tracks to determine a winner. There are 10 classes of cars one can compete with, all with varying levels of speed and modification.
