We (INN) probably wouldn't have implemented the different seasonal
maps if we had looked ahead at the QA effort involved. At the same
time, we implemented a bunch of random extra "pop-up" stuff that could
happen any time you visited the map. This ultimately meant we had to
test the map in each season (by setting computer clocks forward or
back) enough to make sure all the random stuff happened that could
happen, and that we weren't missing a resource.
I remember we had at least one bug that caused us grief because of a
missing resource that didn't get put into the build. I don't remember
the exact resource that was missing, but I like to remember it as the
"exploding bunny" bug. If it was Spring and the bunny was hopping
around on the lawn, your map would crash due to a missing animation of
the bunny. Luckily we found and fixed it, but it made us up the amount
of testing on the map because of it. :-D

Also, to change the season manually:
Under your INN directory, look for a file called:
LSCI.CFG
Edit that file with NOTEPAD (or any other text editor).
Add this line to the bottom of the CFG file:
SEASONS = WINTER
You can replace WINTER with SPRING, SUMMER, FALL.
Example CFG file:
video = VGA320.DRV
joyDrv = NO
keyboard = IBMKBD.DRV
music = SNDBLAST.DRV 220
modemModel = Custom
prefix =
promo = 01002
id = 100001
modem = ATDTinnrevival.game-host.org:17
hostID = SIERRA
default baud = none
maxSounds = 10
dll = ..\graph256.dll
dll = ..\nlnull.dll
pathStr = ..\
virtualDir = VMF
swapSize = 100
resource = .\;..\
SEASONS = SPRING
Thanks,
Sam
Let me know if you can't get it that way and I'll see if I can find it
someplace.

I think the OP was talking about server side code updates, not client
side code updates. There are select individuals out there who still
have copies of the client code, and I'm pretty sure they were
instrumental in reverse engineering the server code for this project.
I don't see a point in implementing a lot of the server-side
functionality like accounts, bulletin boards, etc... It would take
some real DB work, and not worth the effort for the return. Most of
the games work fine... you don't need the other stuff.
In fact, I think one of the biggest mistakes we made back then (that
was still an issue moving on towards Cyberpark) was assuming that we
needed to provide email functionality to people instead of assuming
they already had an email address. By the time some of these products
rolled out, email addresses were somewhat ubiquitous, and we spent a
lot of time just trying to duplicate functionality by implementing our
own mail system. We were just enough ahead of the curve at the time to
worry about it.

| Hey Everyone, I just reformatted and forgot to backup my copy of the Client Software. As the D/L on the Group site is dead, would someone mind supplying a copy of just the client for me? I use Linux so I am unable to use the installers floating on the web right now. Thanks in advance, Westin |
Go to the top page of the discussion group, and at the bottom of the
page will be a "Files" section? Show all files and there'll be
something called INNRevival_installer_source.zip. The _source is a
misnomer, it's just the regular install files, and that's what you
need.

Yeah, talking about the current server implementation. At one point
that (proper user accounts with passwords and mail system) was being
worked on being re-activated under this revival project, but the last
I'd heard about that was something like a year, year and a half ago,
so I'd been wondering.
And the map finally auto-changed, so that's good. ;D
