Dear Jeff,

dear Chantal line,

thanks for the invitation to contribute ideas for themes and modalities of an intersessional event of MGs with SD OWG.

Please find attached some suggestions on “Local provision of Global Public Goods” as a conceptual tool for managing engagement of global citizens (especially youth) and local communities in SDGs regime.

The suggestions are based on deliberations with CSO innovation experts held in the context of Rio+20 Issues Cluster on Innovation last year.

As regards the date of the intersessional for our topic “Local provision of Global Public Goods” it would be most feasible to have the event in December as 6th session of OWG will deal with “Means of Implementation” and “Global Partnership 4 SD” which are topics closely related to the proposed theme.

Looking forward to successful MG engagement in future Rio+20 outcome implementation efforts of UN system and hoping to have a chance to get involved with our conceptual innovations through Major Groups mechanisms.

Best regards

miro

Betreff: (Post Rio+20) Fwd: Crowd sourcing ideas for thematic ares and modalities of engagement for the one day intersessional with the Co-Chairs of the OWG and MGs and other Stakeholders

TO RIO+20 NGO MAJOR GROUP

As a follow up to the exceptional response to the morning briefings organized by stakeholders, the co-chairs of the SDGs Open Working Group have invited us to organize 2 one day interactive intersessional meetings between Member States, Major Groups and other stakeholders. Per below, we propose that the first intersessional will be in October or December piggybacking on a meeting of the financing for sustainable development committee and the second intersessional early next year. There will be limited funding available to bring stakeholders from the Global South. To assist in the drafting of a concept note to the OWG co-chairs, please send us your ideas for proposed themes and modalities by 8 July 2013.

Also attached is the resolution authorizing the establishment of the intergovernmental committee of experts on sustainable development financing. We are in consultation with UN DESA to establish a means by which MGs and other stakeholders may provide their inputs into this committee.

Subject: Crowd sourcing ideas for thematic ares and modalities of engagement for the one day intersessional with the Co-Chairs of the OWG and MGs and other Stakeholders

Colleagues,
Please send your suggestions for thematic areas/program of work  as well as recommended modalities for our first one day intersessional by 8 JULY, 2013.
On the modalities, unless I get strong suggestions otherwise, I would favour the steering committee approach we have been using for the morning hearings.
Following my return from vacation on 8 July, we will compile your suggestions and prepare a concept note to submit to the consideration of the Co-Chairs.

The dates proposed so far - but not confirmed - are either 9 October (piggy backing on the Financing for  Development High Level Dialogue (so far on 7-8 October) or the weekend of 7-8 December between the week of the Second Financing for Sustainable Development committee meeting and the Sixth session of the OWG.

A second intersessional will be planned beginning of 2014.
