I thought I would share some photos of what my students have been using the printer for.

They are designing a three piece bilge pump motor mount that wedges inside a 1/2inch PVC "T". The photo shows the design and revisions. They used Openscad for designing. They just have to print the third part.

Here is a shot of the modified thruster. Again they used openscad to create the object.

Matt,

That is great. Glad to see you guys are having fun with your new toy.

I am working at the college now and just unpacked a new Replicator2 and Digitizer (I know I'm not as cool as you building yours. :-)) and will fire it up with my elementary kids next week.

Have a great day.
John

Here is a bilge pump motor mount and propeller guard. The propeller guard and mount for the motor are one piece. It mounts to two other pieces that wedge into a 1/2 pvc tee. Easy way to safely mount bilge pump motors to ROVs and meet MATE requirements of protecting propeller.

Cool piece!  How long did that take to print, and what type of support did you use?

Wow That's a great design.

Is it on open source or did your kids design it?

It is student designed. They will be releasing it as open source after adding some more comments to the code. They used openscad to write the part.

The only support was used in the holes for the nut pocket. The printed can build at a 45degree angle. We had 2mm of room left in the z axis when it was printed. Print took about 1.5hours.

Have you done any testing with it?
