This error, reported on StackOverflow and answered more than 10 years ago, still happens in the latest version of Inno Setup: https://stackoverflow.com/a/30462977/634821

While not hard to fix, it's very annoying. You (the compiler) need to retry the operation a few times with a short delay before calling it a failure, should be a simple fix.

Also would help a lot, to try to find out what process is reserving the file.

Would help a lot when trying to fix the problem, or at least report it to IT personnel etc.

Most likely culprit is the Virus scanner, but can't imagine that one or two  programmers could influence Virus scanner company to change their product.

And there are so many of them, so it would be way better Inno Setup would try to work around the issue.

Hi,

Could you please post the script you used to reproduce the issue, along with the full compiler output? To copy the compiler output to your clipboard, click inside the Compiler Output list, then press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C.

Thank you.

Greetings,
Martijn

This stack overflow answer describes why I get that error; it only happens occasionally but closing Window Explorer fixes the problem. I output to a NAS and sometimes if I'm browsing that output folder on another machine the error pops up.

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for the information. Could you please post the full compiler output and script next time the error occurs? You may redact any names in the output and script if necessary.

Thanks in advance,

Greetings,
Martijn
