In what was once a Hispanic working class neighborhood bar called
El Mexicano has sprouted a new spot for stiff cocktails & fine bar food. Zoes, a new
Inner Mission bar located at 3088 24th St (between Lucky St & Treat Ave - and right next door to
Haus Coffee), showcases what seems to be the original art-deco bar in all its splendor with back-lighting along with smartly placed votive candles on all the tables. This sultry & sophisticated hangout pumps high-fidelity jazzy sounds of finely selected vintage records like
Booker T. & The M.G.'s.
Chef Anuoluwa Adeboje spent time at
Fifth Floor bringing the street cred to make this a potential destination spot. Chef Anu provides a French-inspired bar menu, incorporating fresh organic meats & fish that are sustainably sourced. Sample from hearty appetizers such as a decadent, heart-stopping starter of poutine (truffle fries, mushroom gravy, mozzarella cheese curd) for $9 to steak tartare beef tenderloin with mustard, capers, fresh quail egg for $10. For something off the "big plates" section of the menu, try a farro wild mushroom risotto at $12 or the 8oz Kobe beef burger with arugula, tomato, caramelized shallots, pickle, acme bun & truffle fries for $14...what may soon become stiff competition for all other burgers in town.
