After so much anticipation, the era of version 5 has really begun. The
transition has been easier than expected. The new version is really
fine: a single problem has been reported during this month; it was a
minor one and was fixed before the final release. Since 2005 you have
seen many intermediate releases, each one with a few incremental
changes. I don't remember of any other release with so many changes.
I have listed the main ones at the address:

That page also explains when the upgrade is free and when it's not.
There are probably many details that I have forgotten about. In any
case, nothing can substitute direct experience. Discover by yourself
what's new.
Version 4 was already a very good product, so I can honestly declare
that, from a practical point of view, the two versions are equivalent.
Personally I have a strong preference for the latest version. It might
depend on the incredible amount of hours that I spent on it during the
last seven months!
Looking objectively, the changes are tangible improvements. Let's
take, for example, the new module for phase correction. It looks more
difficult to use, but a few problems have been solved. In version 4,
to change the zero-order correction from 179° to 181°, it was
necessary to move the slider to the opposite end. Now you have a dial
that rotates continuously. I know that the dial is not good for small
adjustments, but you already have the little arrows for small
adjustments.
I could go on and demonstrate that are only advantages, and no loss,
in using version 5.
I don't know if the new look is definitive. It takes little time to
create a new cursor or a new icon or to modify the layout of a dialog.
If good ideas arrive, we can change the look at any time.
Even if you don't plan to upgrade, please give a try to version 5. I'd
like to hear your opinion.
