NEW / OLD PHASE CORRECTION
The latest Mac version is 5.2.4, released today. It restores the
slider for zero-order phase correction, which reappears side-by-side
with the knob that has been in its place for a whole year. Their
function is equivalent. This seems to be a case where it's better to
have redundant controls. Nobody will complain anymore, now. I really
like this solution, though it's paradoxical. An expert user would
ignore both controls and use the first order correction exclusively,
in conduction with a mark. That's why the program itself puts the
visible focus on the right slider. The presence of twin sliders makes
iNMR 5 more similar to its siblings (iNMR reader and iNMR for
Windows).
iNMR for Windows
It's official, is stable, is here. iNMR for Windows is born.
The current version number is 1.0.2. It will remain in this stage
(without CPM and without scriptability) for another six months or
until the world discovers its existence (whichever comes first). It
requires Windows Vista (or higher) and, for 2-D spectroscopy, a
Direct3D 10.1 graphic card. Windows XP is excluded.
The number of PC that can currently run iNMR is seven times the number
of Macs. Despite this, we are still selling more copies for the Mac
than for Windows. Whatever the reason, I can assure that it has
nothing to do with quality. Nobody better than me knows what's inside
it and i KNOW that iNMR for Windows is almost as good as the original.
PRACTICAL ADVANTAGES for Mac Users
1 - You can move a standard licenses to a PC, should you need it.
2 - You can pay less when buying a new license if you combine your
order with a colleague's. Up to now you were forced to find a Mac-
equipped colleague to formulate a multiple order, now it's much
easier.
3 - You can send iNMR documents to just anybody (but Linux users).
Even if the receiver has never heard about iNMR, she can download a
copy and will be able to read your files without a license (in trial
mode). Chemical formulae, if imported as mol files, are visible with
the Windows version. Pictures aren't.
PROMOTIONAL PRICE
A disposable license for Windows costs 50 euro. This price is valid
for both industrial and academic customers. This is a unique
opportunity of the former. Not only they pay 15 or 100 times less
(compared to the competing products, however inferior), but they are
free to test iNMR on their PC for an unlimited amount of time, before
ordering a license. They can't print nor save, of course, during the
test, but those functions are irrelevant for evaluation. At the end of
the promotional period, the price will return to 150 euro.
Students can buy, at the same price, a student license which is
universal (also valid for the Mac) and more durable (it includes a
replacement key, IF necessary).
