i was using revit on a friends computer. the installed version is not an educational version so when i wanted to run a lighting analysis the program wanted me to pay credits (which of course i didnt want to).
I want to know what happens if I want to continue working on a model in a commercial version of Revit that was modelled in the Student version. I really do not want to rebuild the entire thing. I read somewhere that you cannot open a model saved in the educational version in the full commercial version which is concerning. Is this true?
Bianca - You asked about the "educational version." The version my students use is indeed the educational version available to schools to install on school-owned computers. I can open models from these on my commercial version. Perhaps the version available to individual students ("student version"?) is in some way limited -- the only way to tell for sure is to create a small project with the version available to you and see if you (or someone else) can open it with the commercial version. Easy. You could post it here and ask if anyone can open it with their commercial version. - Bill
That being said, it is a violation of the license agreement to use work done in an educational version in a commercial project. So while technically possible, you should check with legal council on what exposure you might have in doing this kind of thing.
if i open and save a model in the commercial version, will i have issues if i try to work on it again in the educational version? (our school's revit is having some issues, so i asked my employer if i could borrow our work revit to finish my schoolwork, but i'm nervous i won't be able to work on it again with the school version once it is fixed)
Our firm has recently got into the Revit scene. Although I was a bit skeptical of it (thinking of the cost to gain ratio) I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it, especially with content management within the revit system (coming from software like auto cad and rhino where 80% of your work is just managing files). There is an issue however that I'm hoping someone can help me out with, we have started hiring interns (grad students) into the firm to help with the the design process, their work generally involves family creation. We have them working on computers with commercial licenses, however recently I realized that one of the interns had taken work home and finished it off on his home computer which has an educational licence. Luckily we were able rectify the situation, but it was fairly scary. If we hadn't realized it could have been a huge embarrassment for us. Although we can strictly comply our staff from using the educational version, the interns don't have a permanent position in the company and don't really get get how serious a licencing issue can be. It has also become fairly cumbersome cause of the rapid replacement of interns lately.

I found out today that Autodesk, creators of applications used in many industries that use 3D visualisation software including the games industry, have Udemy as an approved educational facility in their approved school ID list. They never used to, not when I started here, but now they do. What this means for my students at least, is that they can use a whole bunch of their software absolutely free, for THREE years.
Students and Educators are no longer eligable for Home USE license...However; educational products are 2 seats (at least Revit and AutoCAD are)...meaning you do not need a Home Use License the first place. (Home Use is intended for single seat products)
I need help. I have an educational license. I downloaded Revit and it was working fine. I began to get these "SYSTEM MAINTENANCE Sorry something went wrong on our end" pop up boxes. I closed and moved on. Then it stopped working and I got the "Licensing Manager not functioning properly" error and Revit doesn't open. I have contacted customer support and they told me to update my software via Autodesk app. Still not working. Then, I followed the uninstall/ reinstall steps. Didn't fix. I followed the clean uninstall/reinstall steps. I ran the Microsoft trouble uninstall/install program. I downloaded the updates - including the license update. Still didn't work.
I am a student and i downloaded the student version of Revit 2017. I have the license to download it for free, thanks to my university. In teory in the 2017's version Collaboration for revit, the service to work on files on cloud at the same time, is included, but when i try to use it with my educational version appear the notice in the p
I have Inventor and InventorCAM, both installed on the same day. Some time ago I got a message ( either email or on Inventor I cant remember which ) saying my educational licence would expire in 90 days so I need to renew it. So I renewed it, and it came up that my 12 month licence had renewed and I had 12 months to go. So straight away it ripped me off 3 months.
I still don't understand why any / all of them expire in June / July this year, when my Autodesk account says I have access until April 19, 2022? I think that April 19 this year was when I renewed Inventor, when I had to find my educational institution on the list and confirm that etc.
No I wasn't able to get this sorted out. This year around, I was able to renew Inventor / InventorCAM, but not FeatureCAM. I clicked the link that FeatureCAM sent me to renew, it takes you to the page, I click renew, it comes up "comgratulations your access has been renewed for 12 months", but it doesn't renew it, as FeatureCAM still counts down the days until expiry, and it eventually expired. I didn't receive the email saying my access was extended either. Yet when I go to my page it says I have educational access until next year so there shouldn't be a problem, but there is.
What you describe is the intended behavior: One renewal date for product subscriptions, which is tied to your educational access/eligibility date. It is our goal to work toward ensuring that all education customers are having a consistent experience with product access and renewals.
Hello everyone. I have the same exact problem with Civil 3D and revit. I renewed my student license 3 days before expiring, when i follow the restart access link and login into the autodesk website via my browser it says that my license is renewed until next year. Yet is doesn't seem to this syncronize this back to the individual autodesk applications. The autodesk desktop connector and autodesk desktop app do say the my license is renewed, but don't circle this back to the individual applications. I allready uninstalled and installed civil 3d, restarted everything etc.
It's really strange, for some applications like civil, revit, recap the license doens't seem to be updated. Yet for inventor it does. When I tried logging out, and in again with recap photo it gave me the following message without explination. @gabe.anderson what can I try to resolve this issue?
Educators, lab administrators, and IT administrators of qualified educational institutions may receive free access to Autodesk software titles for installation in classrooms or labs. Most Autodesk products are available with educational access, including web services like Fusion 360. See the Education Community site (US site).
