Alongside the format, the FLAC project also contains a free and open-source reference implementation of FLAC called libFLAC. libFLAC contains facilities to encode and decode FLAC data and to manipulate the metadata of FLAC files. libFLAC++, an object-oriented wrapper around libFLAC for C++, and the command-line programs flac and metaflac, are also part of the reference implementation.

The reference implementation of FLAC is implemented as the libFLAC core encoder & decoder library, with the main distributable program flac being the reference implementation of the libFLAC API. This codec API is also available in C++ as libFLAC++. The reference implementation of FLAC compiles on many platforms, including most Unix (such as Solaris, BSD) and Unix-like (including Linux), Microsoft Windows, BeOS, and OS/2 operating systems. There are build-systems for autoconf/automake, MSVC, Watcom C, and Xcode. There is currently no multicore support in libFLAC, but utilities such as GNU parallel and various graphical frontends can be used to spin up multiple instances of the encoder.

You can pass --silent/-s to flac and it will not include the copyright info, etc., in the output. Note, however, that it will also not show anything when the file is ok, only outputting if it is not ok.

I currently own the Denon sc-5000s and a pioneer mixer. I am attempting to make my library versatile so I have no excuse to not be able to perform on any piece of equipment. But this one issue where both traktor AND pioneer CDJs have an error message when loading these flac files is really annoying me to no end

So I'm on the latest build , latest android , s22 ultra. On my note 20 ultra it read pretty much all my flac files correctly. Since I transferred everything over to my see ultra it has placed 75 albums in the unknown artist category. All of them are flac files that were properly placed on my old phone. Is there a fix for this?

Do the problem songs show with any other tag data (title, album etc) or just as something like "filename.flac"? If just the filename, try doing a FULL Rescan in Settings > Library, or even remove the chosen folders from Settings > Library > Music Folders and re-assign them and grant permissions again. Avoid using root-level folders on your SD Card. If you copied your settings over, make sure Settings > Misc > File Access Legacy Mode has not copied over too.

So here's a pic of how it's reading them. No data what so ever, legacy mode is disabled. Nothing I'm doing seems to fix the problem. I don't understand why it's not reading them with all the correct data. Some other flac files are properly listed and divided into individual tracks. It's just one long file

'Show CUE Disc Image Files' simply means that in addition to seeing all of the individual songs (created from the CUE info) you'd also like to see that big 45-minute master FLAC file in your folders list too. In your case, the Planisphaerium.flac file has no tag data though, so it can only be shown in the Unknown Artist / Unknown Album areas in lists. Most people don't want this so by default the feature is turned off.

If your music files have already been saved as individual songs, each containing their own title/etc info, CUE files are not necessary. That is the most commonly used system for ripped or downloaded music, so rather than one big file with a separate CUE index, you'd have "Tunnel of Ions.flac", "Geodesic Dome.flac", and so on.

Given the somewhat abstract nature of the file/folder structure, I was more thinking that perhaps there is an issue with the folders that have been given permission for Poweramp to have access. This folder structure doesn't really follow the norm, so my concern was more in that regard. If Poweramp can see all files and they are correctly found, that may not be the case here. But at the same time, perhaps the cue files are using a specific path for the flac files that has changed with this move, that Poweramp cannot restore.

However as @MotleyG has pointed out, the actual music file on your phone is in FLAC format, not WAVE. So the CUE file is referring to a file named "Wormed - Planisphaerium.wav", but that file isn't present on your device as it has been converted to "Wormed - Planisphaerium.flac", so it will fail at that point. If you edit the CUE file in your text editor to point to the correct filename, it should work.

Soooo what should I try? I think flac files should be playback from WD smoothly. Maybe I should try to change some options on router? (TP LINK D5). I am not green on computers but I have no idea what should I check, please advice.

Not much. FLAC tags are simple. To get an idea of how files are tagged, it can be helpful to use metaflac to examine the tags of a few FLAC files. Metaflac is a command-line tool that is installed with the FLAC package that you download from SourceForge.

Totally agree with this. It's very useful to see exactly what Mp3tag is changing. I created this batch file to do just that, but it only works if metaflac.exe and the batch file are in the same directory as the FLACs. I want to make a shortcut to the batch file on the desktop and be able to just drag and drop a folder full of FLACs on the shortcut, but I'm having trouble with the syntax. I know it's something ridiculously simple. Any ideas? Here's what I have:

Edit:
The flac exported from Shotcut plays fine in media players.
I opened the exported flac in Shotcut. The duration is wonky. The flac can be added to the playlist, it plays in the viewer. Cannot add it to a video or audio track on the timeline. Shotcut becomes unresponsive.
Tried opening a few flac music files. They all worked fine, could be added to the timeline.

I reproduce this. MediaInfo shows no Duration. ffprobe shows duration=N/A. Change the Format to matroska, and the problem is gone. Using ffmpeg to write flac as flac has no problem. So, this is a bug in MLT, which is low on the list of priorities. For me, the file size difference is about 5KB for a 30 second clip.

I have just installed mpd and ncmpcpp, but I need to rip my whole music collection to flac. How would you suggest I do this and what tools work well? I am also curious about how I should add album/track information etc. appropriately.

ncmpcpp can be used to rename and tag music files, but therefore I'd recommend a real tagger like flack (don't know that, but I guess it's good ) or easytag or something like that.
I also use abcde to rip my cds, rubyripper is very good, but it didn't work here a while ago, so I chose to stay with abcde, which never failed.

EAC under wine can be set up using exactly the same guides to usage as are used under Windows. I have used it and Rubyripper, recently, to convert approximately 700 CDs to flac. Both are good programs and both have minor annoyances.

Windows 10 comes with the ability to read ID Tags for a bunch of standard codecs such as: mp3, wave, flac, m4a, opus, ogg The issue can be, that Microsoft do not support the full range of ID Tags that dBpoweramp does, such as Wave ID3 chunk, or...

My LG C2 TV running latest WebOS and latest Emby app connected through eARC to my denon avr S760H receiver. The audio setting I have on my tv is "Pass Through" so my receiver is the only device decoding audio streams. In this configuration I an unable to hear FLAC audio from the Emby app running on the LG TV. The Emby app shows that it's playing; in stats for nerd, it shows direct play, and there is no error message in the server logs. This appears to be the way for any FLAC audio file, while all MP3 files play, and are heard, as expected. Documentation shows both the LG TV and Denon receiver are compatible with FLAC audio format. I can airplay from my IOS Emby app on my phone to both the TV and receiver playing flac audio successfully, just not using the LG TV app.

Had to find a USB stick, but yes I was able to put the flac audio file on a USB stick and have it play directly using the build in LG media player from the USB. Audio was heard through my receiver as expected.

That all sounds correct, although you don't need eARC for DD+, standard ARC should be fine. It sounds like Auto is selecting PCM rather than pass-thru. Ideally I would suggest pass-thru is probably your best option. Obviously this doesn't work for your flac files, but it depends on how often you need to play them, and if you can be bothered switching modes.

My understanding is that there is nothing non-standard about the .wav files created by Star ripping but that the metadata created in association with the .wav files does not work properly when opened on non-Naim equipment. Perhaps someone else on this board can confirm. Generally both .wav and flac produce very good sound but .wav slightly better. Flac are compressed and thus smaller.
