Alive is a 1993 American biographical survival drama film based on Piers Paul Read's 1974 book Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors, which details a Uruguayan rugby team's crash aboard Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 into the Andes mountains on October 13, 1972.
So in between episodes this week I watched Alive (1993), the movie about the Andes crash that has been noted many times as one of the story inspirations for Yellowjackets. One takeaway--and this is true to the actual events of 1972 as well as the film--was the adapting of religious ideas to the context of wilderness survival and of survival cannibalism.
