I'm in the process of starting the actual build of my inmoov and I was curious why the BOM went with RC Hobbykink servos instead of something from pololu.  For example, at the same cost as the HK15298B, you can get this:
http://www.pololu.com/product/1057

or for 3x the cost, you can get more than 3x the torque with: http://www.pololu.com/product/2147

I'm not sure if there are any other restrictions, and I'm leaning towards Pololu for my servos because I've had great experience with them in the past.

Hi,
The choice of servo came after buying low cost MG995, and then MG996 to finally get some HK15298 and at last I tried the HK15298B.
When I started the project I had no idea how a servo would work and also no idea about what to look for in the specifications.
When I discovered that the MG995 would burn I had to look for other servos that would fit my design and also that could be bought in Europe.
Pololu prices become high once the border tax is applyed.
You can choose what ever you want for servos, just make sure they have the same size specifications. Specially with F size:

Also make sure you have servos that rotate at least 90 degrees for the fingers and 180 degrees for the wrist.

Power HD 1218TH is not 3x more torque than the Hk15298B it's equal, I think, some site slightly overrate and others under estimate..

HK15298B High Voltage Coreless Digital MG/BB Servo:

Spec.
Torque: 18kg @ 6v, 20kg @ 7.4v
Weight: 66g
Speed: 0.18 / 60deg @ 6v, 0.16 / 60deg @ 7.4v
Voltage: 4.8v~7.4v
Motor type: Coreless
Plug: JR Style

Size: 40 × 20 × 38 mm

Power HD 1218TH :

Digital?: Y
Speed @ 6V: 0.18 sec/60°
Stall torque @ 6V: 18.0 kg·cm
Speed @ 7.4V: 0.16 sec/60°
Stall torque @ 7.4V: 21.0 kg·cm
Lead length: 12 in
Size: 40.3 × 20.2 × 37.2 mm

I see where I made my mistake, I looked at the torque of the MG, and the weight of the Pololu, yea, oops.  But good info, and I'm glad you chimed in.  I didn't consider the shipping charges, I fully understand (i've had to order from the UK and coming to the US is just as bad sometimes).  I'll probably grab the 1501MG servos that are similarly priced for now.  3x the cost for just a little torque, nah, if it really was 3x the torque, sure!

I thought I would share the results of my searching.  Here are the servos I plan to purchase, they all seem to be within spec.

How did the 1501MG servos work for you?  I am having a terrible time with HK.

Hi Siddharth,
I know they are often out of stock, too many people building InMoov creates a huge need for these servos.
You need to work around.
I recently asked a friend in the US to purchase the HK15298B from Hobbyking and ship them to me.

I have contacted Hobbyking to start some kind of deal to have the servos available on InMoov shop online, we will see if that concludes in some way...
