what potentiometer replacement is recommended as a replacement for the extracted 805BB potentiometer? I have some 5k pots but they dont seem to fit the parts unless I modify them.
Thanks Brian

What's wrong with using the pots from the 805bb's? There are modified square stls on Thingiverse for all the pieces that require a pot.... so you don't have to modify the round stl parts....By the way, most regular Hitec servos use the same pt, so if you damage one from an 805BB you can pull another pot out of a cheaper Hitec servo....

you take out the potentiometer from the 805 and place it in the predefined location on the part you are trying to control, e.g. LowArmSideV1 or the alternative LowArmSideV1Square it you are using the newer versions of the serve. . The servo will not have a potentiometer any more, just the connections to the external poti.
Or I might have misunderstood you - you broke/lost your extracted poti?

no...I followed the recommended tutorial that Geal has posted on his assembly page.....it extracts the wires without taking the PCB off...so I was wondering what pot you would use if you don't extract the pot that's under the board...the tutorial says any 5k pot will work but the ones I have are way to big

H Brian,
you will have to extract the original potentiometer in any case, because a pot can only rotate of 180 degrees. If you leave it inside it will get damaged and might damage something else. Also don't forget to remove the mechanical end stop on the big gear as described in the tutorial.
Here under you can see the kind of potentiometer that is under the pcb. (for the round model)

I would like to know the answer to the original question of where to get a replacement potentiometer for the 805BB servo.  One of mine broke and I need to replace it.  Does anyone know a compatible part number and supplier?

Thanks,
Daniel

The hs805bb uses a 5kOhm linear trim potentiometer.  The value of the pot doesn't matter so much,  I actually use a 10kOhm pot, linear trim with 270 degrees of actuation.  It seems to work just fine as a replacement.  There does need to be a few small modifications to various parts to support different pots though.

I used OpenSCAD to re-work the elbow gear here :   http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:413525

I did another write up on how to use OpenSCAD to make those changes to the gear here:  http://myrobotlab.org/content/using-openscad-edit-stl-files

good luck!

I had a bunch of old Hitec HS-411 servos lying around so I pulled the pot from one of them... Since they are so cheap (less than $10) why don't you just buy one of those small hitecs and use the pot from it?

Thanks, Kevin.  I appreciate the reply.  If I understand your approach, you are saying to use any potentiometer I can get my hands on which has similar specs and then modify the Inmoov part to accommodate it.  I was looking to get an exact replacement pot, but your suggestion is a nice workaround.  If I can't find a drop-in replacement, I will go this way.  Thanks for publishing your OpenSCAD code.  Very cool!

Best regards,
Daniel

Thanks, RobotGuy6, for the excellent tip.  Are you saying that the pot from the HS-411 is a drop-in replacement for the pot from the HS-805BB?  I'm looking to stock up on a few of them, because I'm working with students to build Inmoov arms as a robotics project, and I can imagine that we may break more of them along the way. I was hoping to find them for $3-$4 or less, but $10 is definitely cheaper than replacing the 805BB.

With best regards,
Daniel

Hi

I searched for quite a while before I found this potentiometer that I think will be a good replacement for the square pot that is used in the newer servos.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Japan-NOBLE-model-aircraft-remote-control-joystick-with-precision-potentiometer-5K-axis-length-10MM-XV09411N1OFF/32371135263.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.45.icApG2&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_0,searchweb201602_4_10017_10021_507_10022_10020_10009_10008_10018_10019_101,searchweb201603_9&btsid=18c5c774-7637-48ab-88a3-996f2f130804

The price is for a batch of 10. It will probably take a few weeks to receive.

Thank you, Mats!  I don't know how you found it, but that is exactly what I'm looking for.  I will be ordering a batch of these.

I ordered on the taobao:
https://world.taobao.com/item/5109957829.htm

It's the same pot as in the servo and costs ~0.5$

P.S. my order on taobao site is failed, the seller returned money.
Hope that orders will get in time from aliexpress
