Hi All,

I'm looking at building up some hands to start with. I want to spend wisely and try to keep the cost down but I don't want to buy twice! For the finger servo's is there a lot of benefit going for the HK15298B over the MG996R servos?  They are over double the price so I could buy enough servos for both hands with change compared to just a single hand. Has anyone experimented with both?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm getting good results with the MG996R servo's including a spring.

Same servo with more torque:

The spring is there to use it like a servo-saver and I've designed a other servo-pulley.

(a update will coming soon)
I hope this or next week to shoot a video and will share this.

Marten

Hello,
The MG996r are okay and they give good results as long at they don't stay too long under pressure. It all depends on what you want to do. I have ended up replacing all my MG995 and MG996 by the HK15298B for the finger actuation.

Thanks all..

I went and ordered 5 off HK15298B's in the end. I will save up for the other hand :-)

Slowly printing things off and I should have a nearly completed left hand by the end of the week. Great project !!

Hi,
I am wondering if HK15298B servo are able to achieve full movement of the fingers because it have 90 degree rotation instead of 180 degree on MG996R?

Maryam.

Hi,
The diameter of the pulley is taking the 90 degree rotation in account. The majeure finger is missing a little bit of rotation to do a full open and close gesture. Therefore it is very important to set the hand cover and the finger covers to minimise the full extension of the fingers.

Obrigado,

Steve

I'm starting to get acquanited with servos myself and am starting on the index finger. From what I understand, if you pull a Tower Pro servo apart, the internal connections are weak and not protected against vibration. Constant, repetitive motion would therefore dramatically decrease the life of the servo. It depends on your application, I guess, but I purchased a Hobby King HK15298 for the project since overall development alone will probably exercise the servo quite a bit.

Since you open up the servo(s) you can change weak cables for better ones, and also protect the connections from vibrations by putting a little glue on then using a glue gun.

Hi Community.

I found the cheapest MG995 Pro with metal gears and still 13 kg tongue on Amazon. I am happy with those because instead of 9 euro you get those for 5,59 euro (or a pack of 4 for 24.99 eu)
here are the links

****BUT *** those are MG995 Pro!!! so they are a bit higher (3 mm) than usual servos.
Good news: I redesigned the entire SERVO BED to fit those all inside (took me 4 days to make them), printable without supports. I can pass it over with pleasure.... you will need to have a soldering gun to cut the bottom of forearm reinforcing bridges.

Enjoy, Vasily (Austria)

Vasily,

Please could you send me the .stl for the servo bed that you designed.  :)  Also if you have any advice on using the MG996R for the hand and forearm that would be great.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,

Sam

Hi sir, I know it's kind of old post I would love to have your redesigned servo bed. Could you please send them to me?

Standard ServoBed for HK15298B sized servo's: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1036300

I've redesigned the Wrist part and ServoBed to use smaller servo's: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1824042
To use my option with HK15298B sized servo's, you can use this "remix": https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1847641
