Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding the option to release emissions from a smoke stack rather than on ground level.

The documentation (https://inmap.run/docs/emissions/) states the following:

"Files with elevated emissions need to have attribute columns labeled height, diam, temp, and velocity containing stack information in units of m, m, K, and m/s, respectively. (Shapefiles without these attribute columns will be assumed to contain ground-level emissions only.)"

Does this imply that if I provide only the stack height and non or only some of the other variables, InMap is going to assume that the emissions were released at ground level?
I have information on the diameter, emission temperature and velocity but I'm not sure how accurate they are.
If it is possible I would prefere to use only stack height, which I know is reliable. Is it possible to run InMap only with the stack height and none of the other variables or is InMap going to assume that the emissions were released at ground level in that case?

Thanks for your help!

Best,
Michael

Hi Michael,

I think what you can do in this case is to set diam to any value you choose (but maybe not zero), temp to ~300k, and velocity to 0. That way it should only use the stack height to determine the plume injection height (plus the difference between local T and 300, which should be relatively insignificant.)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your suggestion. I think that will be a good approach.

Best,
Michael
