I've seen some videoes showcasing how to export for example GLTF files for AR use. In the videos I've seen they have been texturing using the standard render engine of c4d which I usually don't use. Is it possible to use the same way of exporting stuff when you have textured/lit the scene using Octane instead of standard render?

Among many other aspects, Octane's RTX hardware acceleration brings significant increases in render speed to NVIDIA ray tracing GPUs. With the layer-based material system, complex materials can be created with a maximum of 8 layers above the base layer. Instead of mixing materials manually, Octane allows the creation of complex, physically correct materials. The Random Walk Medium can be used to create highly realistic skin and other absorption/scattering materials to give digital characters a photorealistic appearance.

Octane does offer ORC (Octane Render Cloud), which is their own version of a render farm. However, it is super expensive and is not suitable for some students or freelancers or those who are on tight budget. There are other render farms that you can use, however, it does break the EULA (end users license agreement), and if you get caught, could mean you lose your license.

Welcome to part two of our render engines series where we are covering the four main third-party render engines for Cinema4D that you need to know: Arnold, Octane, Redshift and Cycles . If you missed part one, where we covered Solid Angle's Arnold, you can check it out here.

These articles are meant to present facts so you can make an informed decision in your career. If you're looking for a compare and contrast of render engines, we'll have one of those for you too in the coming weeks.

One of the great things about GPU rendering technology is how fast you can render an image compared to CPU rendering. If you're currently using standard or physical rendering in Cinema4D, you know that sometimes a single frame can take minutes to render for a simple scene. Octane cuts through simple scenes like butter and turn those minutes into seconds.

A giant perk of using any 3rd party render engine is the Interactive Preview Region (IPR). The LiveViewer is Octane's label for an IPR. It allows users to see a rendered scene in almost real time. Especially since Octane uses GPUs to processes the rendering. IPRs update in real-time whenever an object is changed, a light added or texture attribute changed. It is awesome.

Since Octane is a GPU engine, you're coming into the future by using a GPU engine. While there are still lots of reasons to use a CPU render engine, the speed increases that you get from using a GPU is hard to ignore.

As we mentioned in our previous Arnold article, using any third party engine is something else to learn and purchase. You can't beat having everything you need to render images included in Cinema 4D, so there is likely going to be some downsides. Here's a few pain-points for Octane at the moment.

Octane has unbiased rendering and is one of the leading in speed and the quality of the result, it delivers the power of unlimited and can expand GPU rendering through the cloud. For Cinema 4D, Octane render has become more and more popular, and it often plays in configurator projects. Although more powerful than other render engines, the Octane render Cinema 4D has its cons. If your computer is not powerful enough, you will lose many time and money waiting for the result. Sometimes, unluckily not have results.

As you know, Octane render is a physical render engine, developed by Otoy in 2012. It is the first and fastest GPU acceleration in the world. Octane is available as standalone software and as a plugin for DCC (such as Maya, 3Ds Max, and C4D).

So simply understand that Octane render for Cinema 4D is a plugin that seamlessly integrates into Cinema 4D or we can understand that Octane for Cinema 4D is a plugin that extends Cinema 4D rendering capabilities.

Besides the pros, Octane render Cinema 4D has some cons. No rendering engine is easy for beginners. Users will take the time to learn this render engine for proficient use. And the price is also a con of it because Octane licenses cover only one application. If you want to use Octane, you need to have enough budget.

We have written a detailed explanation of why using such hardware for Octane, you can find out in detail here. Although upgrading hardware is a complete solution to decrease the rendering time, you need to spend a lot of money on hardware and routine maintenance.

One of the best solutions for shortening the render time of Octane render Cinema 4D is using a render farm. With render farm, you do not need to high a performance workstation or upgrade the hardware because the render farm allows you to rent powerful hardware or render for you. They provide you with a high-end computer system with powerful hardware at a low fee to rent. You just need to choose the suitable render farm for your Octane and Cinema 4D and chose the right package services for your needs.

However, not much render farm support for it. You can refer to some brands like iRender Farm, Ranch Computing, or Rebus Farm. They are including the IaaS render farm and SaaS render farm support for Octane Renderer for Cinema 4D. Read the details of the Best render farm for Cinema 4D and Octane project.

Vfxrendering is a magazine where you can find useful information and review for Best Online Render Farms. There are literally thousands of render farms out there, and we hope to help you make decisions easier. No matter who you are, no matter what your project is, you always find the solution here.
