Hi teams,

I am your FIRST Senior Mentor for the Inland Empire area, part of the FIRST Field Staff. As an FSM, I have the pleasure of recruiting new teams, supporting rookies, and helping veteran teams. I do this thru communications like this Google group, being available for teams, supporting events, and facilitating training.

It is by far the best job at FIRST and I have enjoyed being a part of the program since 2010.

Every year I have to produce a Service Plan detailing how I will fulfill my role as an FSM. I usually do this by reaching out to Regional Directors and Partners, but this year I thought I would try something different and reach out to those I'm supposed to be helping... you.

So, please let me know if there is anything you as mentors need from FIRST Senior Mentors. It will help me prepare for the next year of working with you and your teams.

Thanks!

Ah, alumni... that's a great idea Linda. Have you ever reached out to Michelle Long at FIRST? She is the Alumni coordinator. Her email is

Other than that, I have not found a good way to recruit mentors other than doing a lot of outreach, I think most of our mentors are relatives or people we have met doing outreach.

Glad to hear that Bullseye is doing well. Making it thru years 3 and 4 are probably the toughest for a team.

So there is definitely something we need help with as a team this year.

We have a lot of exciting things happening-we have grown as a team, have a permanent home on our school campus (we have been commuting 30 minutes to a mentors business for the past 3 years), have students that finally want to work year round-rather than seasonally, lots to be thankful for.

BUT, we have lost two key mentors AND we were short on mentors to start with. Do you have any suggestions for recruiting mentors?

Does FIRST maintain a list of alumni? That would seem like a great starting point for locating people familiar with the program that might want to plug in. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!
