Hi all,

Welcome back to school and with that, let's get ready for a new season of robots.

So, first the big changes. If you haven't seen Frank's Blog about the new registrations system, give it a read before September 21st. You will be glad you did.

Second announcement, Robokong and Poly Techs will NOT be hosting a kickoff this year in the Inland Empire. FIRST made some changes to the minimum required number of teams needed to keep the kickoff free and we felt it was too risky of a proposition to host the kickoff. Basically, if we did not get 15 teams signed up, we would be on the hook for shipping charges for all the teams that did sign up. At $200 per team, we just couldn't afford the risk. If demand grows in the area, then we will be happy to host the kickoff again.

So teams in the IE will need to go to kickoff locations in San Diego, LA or Orange County. What we are going to do is send to unfortunate souls to the kickoff location to pick up our kit and the rest of the team will stream the kickoff at our school. Will miss seeing all of you on kickoff day, but hope we can have some good collaboration online at a minimum.

Thank you to members of RoboFalcons and Scorpions who made it to our training this summer. We learned C++ and Solidworks over two-four day training sessions. Will be offering again next year, hope more of you can make it.

Hope everyone is recruiting lots of team members and getting funding lined up! I'm sure the competition will be great in 2018, like it is every year!

Also, don't forget about Beach Blitz coming first weekend in October! More information here: http://beachblitz.ocra.io/

Finally, if you know others that should be on this list, feel free to invite them

Hi Rick,

I am willing to go to a kick-off with my trailer and pick up any kits for teams that wish me to do that and then maybe we could have a little later "private" group kick-off and distribute kits.

Thank-you,

That's very generous Dara, thank you.

If we do this, we would need to  coordinate which kickoff you would go to, OC would most likely be the best. We would also have to provide you the ability to pick up our kits as a surrogate (there is a form and process documented somewhere, I will find and post to this group).

Robokong is happy to host a mini-kickoff at La Sierra HS in our build space. We could probably fit 30 or so people. If anyone has more space let us know.
