Withthe changing season also comes changing popularity in phone apps. Snapchat was once king of visual-based social media, but after a series of bad ads and updates, the app has been dethroned by Instagram.

The very large mountain attracts both the religious and the fit. Thousands climb up the mountain at least once a year as a religious act, but the mountain is not restricted to only the God-fearing. The trail, about 4 miles round trip, makes for great exercise with a stellar view and massive limestone cross as the finish line rewards. If you go, be respectful toward those who might be on a pilgrimage to the top, and don't go alone.

The overlook remains beautiful even if the parking situation is challenging. With the Star on the Mountain behind you and two countries in front, you'll feel as though you're being cradled by the Borderland. It's a nice moment, and nice moments can usually be translated into Instagram posts. Sometimes there's an ice cream truck at the top, so you can get props for your Insta-shoot.

The Downtown El Paso mural, by artist El Mac, is a good spot to flex your Instagram poses while learning about the struggles of living on the border. The mural's subject, Melchor Flores, has been fighting for answers into his son's abduction by police in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, since 2009.

The easiest way to garner a bunch of serotonin-bumping Instagram likes is by posting a picture of an El Paso sunset. Every single sunset is a joy and no two skies are alike. The best part is getting to scroll through Instagram on a day when the sunset was exceptionally good.

You get to see everyone's different take and realize we all have this love of sunsets in common. The city has plenty of places to park, perch and watch the sunset unfold, and your perspective will be different depending on where you are in the city. Go find your spot.

With such wonderful buildings full of spooky history in El Paso, it's hard to believe there aren't more horror movies filmed in the Sun City (mainly because it's the tax incentives that Texas doesn't give!). Usually the movies that involve El Paso revolve around the Border and the war on drugs. Sure, there's "Glory Road" which tells the story of the late great Don Haskins, but for the most part movies that feature El Paso don't usually highlight the haunting history of the Sun City. Which is a shame, because there are so many legends and ghost stories we all grew up hearing about El Paso!

Because it's almost Halloween, so I thought it would be great to look around the Sun City to see where could a horror movie be filmed? Obviously there are some great locations that could totally be the set of a horror film. These places also happen to be great looking locations for you to take some Halloween photos.

Remember, some of these locations are private residences (house on Silver street!) so, be courteous. And some of these locations are historic sites, like the Magoffin Home and Concordia- so also, be respectful!

As a longtime engagement photographer in San Luis Obispo, I have discovered the most romantic and beautiful places to go for your engagement pictures that will make your friends and family drop to the floor in awe. I have spent years searching out the best off the beaten track unique and creative engagement session spots, plus really refining my skills at those tried and true locations many people love to use for their engagement pics. Here is a list of those awesome spots I have discovered as a SLO photographer- and I have even more in my engagement session brochure I provide my couples when they book with me for their wedding photography.

I offer engagement shoots with one location or an extended engagement session option where you can pick two amazing locations for your photos- and I offer help with wardrobe selection and posing, so that you have lots of guidance and support from me when planning your engagement shoot. What you wear for your engagement photos can make a big difference in how the photos turn out- and having a photographer that knows how to help you pose and leads you with prompts so that your photos feel candid, authentic, and you have so much fun taking them is the most important thing for great photos besides of course- location!

For couples who want something unique and very playful and romantic for their engagement shoot, that have a love of soft light and natural beauty, that want something unlike anyone else will have, this is the prettiest forest around. If your that couple that loves movies like Lord of the Rings or Dark Crystal, if you love Waterhouse Paintings or European renaissance, this will be a place that will speak to your heart. Its so gorgeous and the perfect place for dreamy light and airy style engagement pictures.

One of the most fun engagement shoots you can do is running along the dunes with Morro Bay rock in the distance. Bring a bottle of champagne and your most beautiful flow dress and pop the bottle open as the sun sets, laughing and hopefully getting in that kiss before the spray ends! The rock in the distance is an iconic and romantic scene if your there at the perfect moment, which I have perfected over the years.

There are several ways to get to the Morro bay Dunes, but my favorite is a secret park that I have discovered in Morro Bay because I love to walk along and take pictures on the bike paths that eventually lead out into the dunes and ocean. From the water you can see the rock and the Three Morro Bay Stacks in the distance and the view just takes your breath away.

If you want to run through the seagulls and play in the waves, spray Champagne in the sunset on the dunes, curl up together on a blanket and kiss in the dreamy last light of day, and watch the sunset walking along the shore, this is the perfect location for your beach engagement photo shoot.

The warm California sun shining through the rolling hills and the fields of vines as far as your eye can see makes for the perfect engagement photo. The wedding venues in Paso Wine Country are also unparalleled if you are looking for an incredible and more affordable vineyard wedding venue than Napa may have to offer. Paso Robles is as beautiful as Napa but much more home grown. Couples just love the rural beauty that encompasses this area and the sunsets are a dream come true.

As an engagement session photographer in SLO I love doing engagement sessions with my couples because I get to meet them, spend time with them, get to know who they are as a couple and help them get comfortable with me and having their pictures taken. My engaged couples are often camera shy and they are always so amazed when they see how fun an engagement session can be with a wedding photographer that gives great direction and prompts and makes them laugh

Reach out today if you would like to talk about doing an engagement session and/or wedding with me! I offer A La Carte engagement sessions and great wedding photography packages that are all-inclusive.

Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks is another of the most popular photography permits in Colorado. This permit covers locations like Chautauqua, Lost Gulch, Flagstaff Mountain, South Mesa Trail, and many others. (Read more about my favorite Boulder locations here.)

Permit cost: $25 for a single day, or $150 for an annual permit. Larimer is one of the few places that makes their annual permit good for a full year from the date of purchase rather than following the calendar year.

Great Sand Dunes National Park is one of the most unique and epic photo locations in all of Colorado. We are still waiting to see if GSDNP will follow suit with other National Parks, including Rocky Mountain NP, and get rid off the portrait photography permit. Until they give a clear answer on this, a permit is still required.

State Forest State Park is the largest state park in Colorado, and located directly north of Rocky Mountain National Park. This is a popular area for recreating year round, from hiking in summer to backcountry skiing in winter.

Union Station in Denver has two separate permits: one for Wynkoop Plaza (the exterior) and one for inside the building. The interior does not allow flash photography, tripods, light stands, etc. You can only get an interior permit for shoots Sunday through Wednesday between 1:00pm and 3:00pm, and cannot take photos in the Cooper Lounge or The Crawford Hotel.

How to apply: For photo shoots outside of Union Station, you must submit the application at least five business days before your planned shoot, with the requested date, time, number of people involved, and a certificate of insurance. For photos inside the Union Station building, you must submit a separate application at least five business days before your planned shoot, with the requested date, time, number of people involved, and a certificate of insurance.
