I have a question about achieving a specific surface finish on
plastic. I am starting with a cast acrylic sheet with a "polished"
surface. I need to identify a process which can roughen the polish
surface to a controled surface finish of 2 microns average. I am open
to a grit blast type process or a chemical etching process. Please
forward any ideas you may have.

Well NHYankBoy, I really don't do a lot with polishing these days, but
you are right on target. I have had my toolmakers use sand blasting,
many other forms of texture using all kinds of media. We've used
peach pits, sawdust, glass beads, sand, etc.

I am starting to see chemical polishing more often and it works quite well.

If you want a mirror finish or an A1 finish, then I still think
diamond polish using a cotton ball and isopropyl alcohol is the best.

I can't think of all the texturing shops I have used over the years
but you probably have your own favorites. For many years I just used
a good old EDM finish for texture and that looked pretty good to my
customers.

Use Google to find most anything you will need when it comes to
injection molding services.

Good Luck,

Bob
