Location&Direction: This temple is located 20 kms from Kumbakonam. There are many buses direct from Thanjavur and Kumbakonam.

This temple is third in pancharanya sthalams.(Thirukarukavur,

Thiruavalivanallur,Arithuvaramangalam,Thiruirumpoolai,Thirukolambathur). As all these five temples are situated in a mark cross, one can visit all these five temples in a day. This temple should be visited between 11.00 am-12.30 pm. When Thirumal and Brahma had an issue ,Lord shiva stood as Jothi .Brahma took he form of swam to see the hair of Shiva, while Thirumal took form of Varaga and went deeper into ground to see the feet of shiva. There is a big ditch in the sanctum of Pathaleswarar. Ditch- paazhi, (hence the name Thiru arathai perum paazhi)
