As you all know, the Government of Maharashtra is in the process of bringing out a new legislation, the Maharashtra Special Public Security Act allegedly "to provide for more effective prevention of certain unlawful activities of individuals and organisation", raising concerns about its scope and potential impact on democratic rights and civil liberties.

In light of this development, we need to critically examine what the proposed Bill entails and reflect on the experience of similar legislations in other states that have faced significant legal and public scrutiny.

We invite you to join us for an informative and engaging webinar to explore these issues. The session will be followed by an open discussion.

प्रिय साथियों,

जैसा कि आप सभी जानते हैं, महाराष्ट्र सरकार एक नया क़ानून, महाराष्ट्र विशेष जनसुरक्षा विधेयक लाने की प्रक्रिया में है, जिसका उद्देश्य कथित तौर पर "कुछ व्यक्तियों और संगठनों की 'अवैध गतिविधियों' की अधिक प्रभावी रोकथाम' बताया गया है। लेकिन, इसके दायरे और लोकतांत्रिक अधिकारों व नागरिक स्वतंत्रताओं पर संभावित प्रतिकूल प्रभाव को लेकर गंभीर चिंताएँ उठ रही हैं।

इसी परिप्रेक्ष्य में हमें प्रस्तावित विधेयक को गहराई से समझने और उन राज्यों के अनुभवों पर भी विचार करने की ज़रूरत हैं, जहाँ ऐसे ही क़ानून बने हैं और जिन पर क़ानूनी व ज़मीनी स्तर पर व्यापक सवाल उठे हैं।

हम आपको इस महत्वपूर्ण वेबिनार में शामिल होने के लिए सादर आमंत्रित करते हैं। सत्र के अंत में खुली चर्चा भी होगी।
