God Guts and Glory was a Chevrolet Silverado monster truck owned and driven by Joey and Melissa Stathas out of Florida. The truck toured throughout the Southeast, and even Poland. It was formerly the original Aftershock. The truck has also run as Royal Purple.

So too Godzilla. The series of films featuring the scaly mountain-sized monster born from the atomic devastation of World War II has reached its 70th anniversary. It has survived technological advances that have gone well beyond a guy in a giant lizard suit, irony-armed jokesters who have spent decades lobbing cracks at Godzilla and its Kaiju cousins, and even the CGI-larded American iterations that have all but drained the joy out of the concept with blunt, un-nuanced spectacle.

Godzilla Minus One returns the metaphor to its original immediate post-war roots by telling the story of Shikishima (former child actor Ryunosuke Kamiki), a Kamikaze who did not complete his mission and who froze up when he had a chance to really put a hurt on Godzilla; the monster ends up slaughtering a battalion of mechanics on the small island of Odo. This time, Godzilla is a powerful symbol of the addictive pull of destruction, and how once unleashed, weapons of mass destruction can never again be contained.

In Monster Busters, you and your fellow adventurers try to defeat the monsters as a team. In each round, each player must play one card from their hand to fight or retreat. If your collective attack is strong enough, you can defeat the monster and gain valuable Items and victory points. But, if the battle is lost, you will be buried with just a little sympathy (VP).

This morning, knowing that I was right and that the other person was wrong, I puffed up and as her voice raised so did mine. We went decibel for decibel until neither of us were hearing what the other was saying. We were just so determined to be the loudest and not wrong.

I am struggling with this, because I know how I should have reacted, how I should always react when my temper flares, but . . . Controlling my temper is something I will have to always be conscious of and work at. It will always have to be a choice I have to make, because I do not like the person that I am when that big green rage-monster takes over.

I know I fail the Lord every single day. The only thing I can do is ask His forgiveness, thank Him for His patience, love and mercy, and wake up tomorrow knowing that daily my slate is wiped clean. This morning I fell (very) short of the glory of God and I am being heavily convicted of it. But each moment is a new opportunity to let God do His work in me, and to be the person He is making me into.

Father,

I have foolishly sought my own glory in being jealous. I recognize that in desiring what someone else has I have attempted to elevate myself to divine status. Oh God, show me Your glory! Help me to stand in slack-jawed wonder and awe at the works of Your hand, the excellence of Your perfections, and the infinity of Your greatness. Wipe out my selfish attempts at pseudo-glory and captivate me with Your worth and wonder.

So it goes with our own kingdoms. We build them brick by brick, admiring the work of our hands, all the while sinfully endeavoring to take the place of God. Jealousy is often the mortar that holds these bricks together. Jealousy, a sin that resides only in our hearts, binds our dreams together, making our pseudo-kingdoms into something spectacular in our own imaginations.

Father,

I have spent countless hours building my own personal Tower of Babel, trying to take your place by establishing my own kingdom. Please, Lord, tear it down, leave it rubble. Erode to dust the jealousy that holds it together, and begin building Your kingdom afresh in my heart. By Your grace and Your help may I seek first the kingdom of God and Your righteousness, fixing my eyes on Jesus and setting my affection on the things of heaven. Oh Father, slay the green-eyed monster in my heart and let Your kingdom come!

Razer of rulers, annihilator of adventurers, bane of insurance salesmen; monsters come in many colors, shapes and sizes. The best way to determine whether a creature is indeed a monster is to observe it carefully in its natural habitat.

Sitting on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art eating a black and white cookie from my favorite New York City bakery, I was looking at the world with double vision. On one hand, the beautiful bustling Manhattan that we know and love today. On the other, a monster-infested world only a few years out of a grueling war that upended their lives. I sat on those steps enjoying my cookie; a thief sat on those steps eating babka and wondering if she should enter into a deal with the devil. It was this dichotomy that drew me to New York City as a setting for my novel, The Wren in the Holly Library.

I wrote the novel in a fugue. What feels like without eating or breathing or even blinking. But it would be four and a half years, many rounds of edits, and even more trips to New York before it became what it is today.

My favorite piece of New York history that enters into this book is Track 61, a secret underground tunnel beneath the Waldorf Astoria that connects to Grand Central Station. It was built for President Franklin D. Roosevelt and used at one point by the president. I fashioned the warehouse and connected subway as a monster underworld. Not a place for unsuspecting humans, but a delightfully dangerous location for monsters hoping to return to former monster glory.

The armies of the Burning Hells are about to become a lot more hellacious. In patch 1.0.5, we'll be introducing Monster Power, a new system designed to give players more control over how challenging enemies are in each difficulty setting. Similar to the "Players X" command in Diablo II, Monster Power gives Diablo III players the option to increase the health and damage of monsters according to different "power levels" -- and in return, they'll receive scaling bonuses to their adventure stats (including experience, Magic Find, and Gold Find) as well as more drops.

The option to adjust Monster Power will be available to all players starting at level 1 through the Quest Selection window, and can be adjusted separately for Normal, Nightmare, Hell, and Inferno difficulties. Here's how the system works....

Monster Power will be disabled by default, so before you can make any adjustments, you'll first need to enable the system. To do so, open up the Game Menu, click the Options button, and then click the Gameplay tab. You'll see the Enable Monster Power Selection box on the right side of the screen -- check that, and then click Accept.

Once enabled, the option to set Monster Power will appear in the lower portion of the Quest Selection window next to the Difficulty drop-down menu. You can choose from Monster Power 1 (MP1) all the way up to Monster Power 10 (MP10), or you can opt for No Monster Power (the default setting) to play the "normal" challenge level for your chosen difficulty. Monster Power can be adjusted separately for each hero and difficulty, and can be changed at any time through the Quest Selection interface.

At the launch of patch 1.0.5, Monster Power will be available in both solo and private multiplayer games. Whenever you join a private multiplayer game, your hero will temporarily adopt the Monster Power level set by the party leader, and it will return to the previous setting you selected as soon as you leave the group.

Starting at MP1, each level of Monster Power will increase monster damage and health by a scaling amount depending on difficulty. To reward your audacity, your hero will receive bonuses to experience, Magic Find, and Gold Find (which will stack above the 300% cap).

In Inferno, in addition to increased experience, Magic Find, and Gold Find, whenever a monster dies and drops an item normally (whether it be gold, a potion, or a piece of gear), the monster also has a chance to drop an additional bonus item. The chance to drop a bonus item will scale up with each MP level as detailed in the table below.*

Expansions to the Dungeons & Dragons bestiary are always exciting for dungeon masters and players alike, and the newest additions are arriving courtesy of Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants. Unsurprisingly, this new sourcebook contains a number of new giant enemies, humanoid and animal alike, but also features a number of creatures of regular size with connections to giants in DnD lore. With over 70 new monsters, Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants has something for every campaign.

Like many creatures added to DnD 5e in books released after the Monster Manual, the monsters put forth in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants feature a wide variety of abilities and attacks. Dungeon masters tired of falling back on enemies with basic bite and claw attacks should be satisfied with some of the more unique powers, and players interested in the lore of the giants will have plenty of new material to explore. The best Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants monsters deliver above and beyond in one or both of these regards.
